Best mounting option for a 1in 4-12x scope on a flatop AR as a DMR?

I have ended up with a AR15 in the following configuration.

DPMS flattop upper with a heavy (.750 diameter no taper to the gas block) 16in 1/9 barrel wearing a A2 front site/gasblock. A2 Rifle handguard.
Armalite lower with match trigger, A2 buttstock.

I want to set it up as a DMR (designated marksman rifle). Looking to mount a Vortex 1in 4-12x scope.

Do I need to use a forward offset one piece mount or can I use high tactical rings on either the flattop itself or using a riser?
Is looking through the A2 birdcage an issue and or should I swap the A2 out for a low profile gas block and mount the scope lower to the bore line?

Is a scope mounted close to the boreline an issue with an AR ....as in cheek weld?

Pretty inexperienced with AR's so looking for advice and feedback. Pics of setups wuld be cool.

You'll probably want a cantilevered scope mount if you shoot nose to charging handle as a lot of guys do. Some guys get away with regular rings, but they're always hunched back a lot.

The A2 sight base will generally disappear at anything over 4 power, so it's not really a big deal to have it on; however your sight picture may be a tad brighter if you get a low pro. For a TARGET RIFLE in .223/5.56 I wouldn't even bother considering it. For a hunting rifle where you may be shooting in darker conditions it could come into play.

But since it's a target rifle, I would leave the A2 in place unless it's bothering you. You could try removing the sight post first.

The height above bore for an AR15 is around 1.5" (centre of optic to top of picatinny rail). Lowering it any lower can cause severe issues with getting a proper sight picture! Although I have higher cheek bones than your average guy, so I like my scopes to sit about 1/8th inch lower to be comfy. Usually you don't want to have it any lower as you won't be able to get a proper sight picture though!

Otherwise the Burris PEPR can be had for a just over a hundred bucks; Wolverine has them:

You can get nicer/fancier ones but usually you're only getting QR ability with them, both of those mounts have pretty solid reviers, personally I like the Burris more as it's fully bolted Vs. the Aero which has an non bolted joint/hinge on top.
 
For quality, take a look at either the ADM or LaRue cantilever mounts. Make sure you buy the model with 1" rings. They're more expensive, but you get a lot of performance for your money and you retain the ability to throw a couple of levers, go back to your irons and then remount your optic without appreciable loss of zero when required. There is no question that optics and mounts are the two areas where it is folly to be frugal. Good luck with the new rifle! :)
