Best muzzle break?

Hey guys was just wondering thoughts and opinions on muzzle breaks. What style works best? any better than others? Im running a 7mm rem mag with a 28" #7hv shilen barrel. THANKS!!
 
To me:

1st choice: Terminator T3 or T4
2nd choice: Fat Bastard

After watching the videos, I've decided to avoid the muzzle brake with holes on top. It will push the barrel down hard. Choose sideways.


It all depends what you prefer. threaded muzzle brake or without threaded muzzle brake.
 
That'd be brake. There is no 'best' anything. Like No-Fear-in-Accuracy says a lot depends on what you need.
You do know a brake will significantly increase the muzzle blast and noise for you? You may want to try a 7mm Mag with a brake first if you can.
 
A brake with ports only on the side does not reduce muzzle jump as much as a brake with ports on the sides and top. Muzzle jump occurs because the center of the recoil on your shoulder is considerably lower than the bore of the rifle, this causes the barrel to lift up when your shoulder reduces rearward movement... Brakes are designed for shooters a bit like fishing lures for fishermen... 'look' appeal and some work better than others.
 
Generally, brakes that vent on a rearward angle will be more effective than ones that vent 90 deg. to the bore axis.

The best brake I have ever used is an Allen Precision Painkiller. Have a look at his Allen Magnum rounds and you'll understand why he designed an effective brake. Had it on a custom 7mm that was sending the 180's at 3160 fps over 80 gr. of Retumbo and the rifle was a pussycat. It kicked less than an unbraked 308 and less than my buddy's 6.5 with a JEC brake. I could spot my own splash and bullet swirl.
 
I wear my MSA Sordins while hunting now because they let me hear stuff that I can't hear without them. Good electronic muffs will let you hear someone's fingers rubbing together across the room while still protecting your hearing when you shoot.
 
I've had amazing results with a Darryl Holland Quick Discharge muzzle brake mounted on a 7mm Remington Sendero. I had Guntech install the muzzle brake and he did an excellent job. At the range, the recoil is comparable to a 223 and you can spot your shots as they hit the target. While hunting, I've seen every whitetail drop in the scope. I use Peltor electronic ear muffs (added advantage of warm ears) or have plugs ready in the blind. I was so impressed with the recoil reduction, I purchased the newer brake from Darryl Holland and had Guntech install it on a Reminton LTR in 308. The reduction in recoil with the 308 wasn't as impressive as the 7mm but I think it may have to do with the fact of the 308 having less gas to counter act the recoil?
Summary....Quick Discharge and have Guntech do the install.
Side note. I purchased a JP muzzle brake for the LTR but couldn't install it for personal reasons ........beauty is in the eye of the beholder lol

On the .308 I used to have, I had Guntech install a Defensive Edge brake. It worked very well and I bought it after Dennis recommended it.

I'm slowly in the process of my next build and will probably be going with something from ATRS as they will also be fitting the barrel to the action, so it makes sense to do it all at once.
 
I went through the same process a few months back for a 300 build. I looked at a number of brakes that have been mentioned already, but ended up choosing the Holland Radial brake which really tamed the recoil. I can see my hits and has less muzzle jump than my M1a.

If money and time was no object I would get the Allen Precision Pain killer break. Anything Kirby makes is gold and the same can be said for his brakes. The APA Fat Bastard is highly recommended on snipers hide forum along with the Badger brake. I couldn't find the APA up here to compare, but the Badger is a large and heavy brake which turned me off as soon as I seen it.

Nathan is awesome guy to deal with. I have 3 of them and they are great.

Same recoil reduction as lot more expensive ones(maybe not as good as terminator coz they are wider, more surface area)
