Best new .22 handgun?

X2.

The Rugers have been around for years, are great value, and a hoot to shoot.

I love my model 41 (bought new from Eaton's downtown Toronto!) but I just about choked on my Wheaties when I saw the price of a new one!

In excess of $1500 for a standard one and over $2K for a "Performance centre" unit wow

edit

Mag price and availability may be moot. Dlask is showing both models in .22 as "sold out". Anyone else carry them?

They are sold out because they no longer distribute Grand Power products.

Trigger Wholesale will be bringing in the entire range of Canadian legal firearms as well as parts and service.

The first order should be shipped this week, hopefully clearing customs before the end of next week.

I see. Trigger Wholesale appears from their website to be just that (wholesalers). Any idea yet about what online retail outlets will be stocking the line?

The gsg 1911 22lr are very good especially once they have been run in. Initialy it was very picky on the ammo, Failure To Feed and Failure To Fire unless using CCI, after polishing the slide and shooting several hundred rounds through it, it will fire any ammo now.
The alfa project 22lr is also a nice solid revolver. Trigger feels a bit heavy and there are 4 distinct points on releasing the trigger, but as its a revolver it will shoot any 22lr ammo you put in it.
If you're on a budget always remember to price in your ammo. Cause every time up pull the trigger and you're thinking .40c .40c the costs of ammo adds up.

I too am a fan of the Gsg....had one from Armco, sold it, missed it and bought another on ee....never had any issues itch mine but some folk on here do....from all my research, the browning seem to be the most popular...but it's personal taste...

The GSG 1911 is a great plinker for the $'s. I've had over 100,000 rd's in one before it gave up. I sent that one back to blueline for repair and it's still going with a ZRTS bushing upgrade.
Brand new out of the box they are frustrating until broken/worn in. I would advise running them wet with a very light weight oil (rem oil or similar) and not to polish or sand anything, after 1,000 rds or so the gun really begins to shine. I like the upgrade btw. The upgrade does give slightly better accuracy but what's more important to me, it now disassembles like any other 1911 for cleaning...if they could only rectify the slide stop peening on the slide the GSG would be a 10/10 gun.

I really like my Browning 1911 .22 .
Nicest rim fire pistol I ever shot was the model 41 though . Fantastic gun , in every way .

Forgive my ignorance......isn't the browning a 3/4 size 1911? Like the feel of a full size...wouldn't mind trying one though...

I see a lot of you are liking the sig-gsg 1911. What are the pros and cons?

My Sig1911-22 functioned very well right out of the box even with bulk ammo. If I would have kept it I would upgrade it with the ZRTS kit and perform the mag disconnect.
Good plinking rimfire but has cheap plastic sights, thin finish, premature slid stop notch wear and smelled funny…..
Sold it and went back to the Ruger MKiii. YMMV

I'm a big fan of my gsg 1911-22. I know some people don't like it, but I love it. Good price as well.

As do I, but my S&W 617, .22LR 10-shot is my baby.
My best semi is however a Ruger Mark III 22/45 with all its innards
changed to Volquartsen.

You should obscure or edit the serial number before posting. Just a word of advice.

I have one of these coming shortly... :)

They are cheap to buy, look and feel good, but are also cheaper made and seem to wear a little quicker. They are made of an alloy metal of some sort, I don't care about that, for what it cost and the use I'll get out of it, I won't mind replacing it with another in a few years.
