Best non-res SHTF gun?

This topic is pretty ill thought out - seriously, what do you mean by TSHTF?

Zombies attack?

Holy war by religion fanatics?

Hurricane?

Earthquake?

Nuclear winter?

Power outage?

Decepticons attack?

Timmies' gone bankrupt?

Or my TV disappears! :runaway:

In New Orleans it was a hurricane, in my neck of the woods it might be as simple as a major earthquake. That would be a minor TSHTF senario. Order would be restored relatively quickly; however, I can think of much worst senarios that are definately NOT out of the realm of possiblities.

Honestly, the best choice for a realistic SHTF situation (natural disaster, food riots, etc.) is a 12 gauge or a lever action center fire.

Both allow the use of over five rounds while still being legal. Just because the #### has hit the fan doesn't mean the police won't be out there looking fo reasons to bust the guy with gun.

Now if we're talking no holds barred, the end of the world as we know it, carry what every you want.

My thoughts exactly... I was thinking of my 870 with the deer barrel.
Short, has a modified choke so I could through anything from bird shot up to slugs in it and has rifle sights. It weighs a bit more than I'd like, but it's been my #1 gun for over 25 years and has never failed me.
$.02

sl8 with mag well kit and a g36 side folding stock

Not very practical, that hbar is heavy to lug around a lot, also quite a long firearm even with a folding stock. I'd go for something more battle proven, AR platform, Swiss, or if you like the SL-8, a G36 (not easy to find tho)

My non-res weapons of choice would be my CZ858 folding stock with 4 mags and tons of stripper clips in the car, and a antique revolver as a CCW.
When it comes to the point where res/non-res/prohib can be used...

An AR with a .50 Cal Beowulf upper :D .....http://youtube.com/watch?v=0CrUARlmqso
and .45acp pistol...probably a 1911

Great thread.
Guns. check.
Ammo. hmmm... I need more ammo. :)

Me too!

I think I would stick with a little .22, and maybe an sks, just because I happen to have a lot of ammo for it. If I had one, a break action single shot 12 ga. Like a lot of people have suggested, SHTF isn't necessarily about zombies chewing their way through the walls and demons circling the skies. Many SHTF instances occur all over the world with alarming regularity, so for me the trick is something that is easy to maintain and keep ahold of, conceal, and use. Heck, even if the trigger group and stock go to heck you can macguiver a simple .22 with a rock and some string.

Don't ask how I know:D

I'd get a Magpul Masada(or Massoud)/Bushmaster ACR when it hits the store, then try to get a new barrel and folding for it(due to the Yank's crappy export law we can only get the version without the flash hider and with fixed stock :( )

my vote goes to 180B

Which one of you is driving around with an AR in your trunk and a bunch of 5 round mags?

me... AR180B 100% legally

-Reliable
-versatile
-quite tough once furnished with the aftermarket add ons (which mine is)
-compact and light
-extremely accessable ammo (probly even lots laying on the ground, maybe even pre loaden into mags for me; depending on the SHTF situation)
-can legaly take it with me places away from home in the event SHTF while i'm away

I'd probably want some lame-o .22LR. More than enough ammo around to last till doomsday.

I agree my buddy and I were sitting around past weekend debating same. 45 for personal carry a good 22 for finding sustanance( lots of ammo in a small package to reduce weight.). A good .308 ( my personal opinion) for assorted other issues. Though he choose the .303 since he has 3 of them.

Tin foil at on

Having Water, food, shelter, heat, antibiotics and a ton of mundane stuff would make much more difference in survival than whether we chose a cooey repeater over a tavor.

however if I were to vote I kind of like Lord humungus Smith and Wesson
