Best NON-Restricted Semi-Auto 22LR

Thanks for all the great ideas....its a pain when a Entity comes along and says that is now restricted without a sound reason, basing a unit just on its looks...but thats the way its going being a present day gun owner

The 10/22 is a solid design, there's a reason it's been in production for over half a century. It's as American as apple pie, and I would put it on par with the AR15/1911.

I got 3x 10/22's all of which are modified in some form or another. 2 of the 3 are flawless and eats ANY ammo, the last one has an extractor issue ($15 aftermarket fix). Like any product you take your chances with their QC department, and as of late it seems that Ruger is more focused on pushing out new products than to maintain QC.

If you don't plan to get into the aftermarket game, stay away from the 10/22. On the upper end of things I'll recommend the Canadian made Dlask DAR-22/TUF-22, and on the lower end I hear good things about the Remington 597.

Friend of mine has the GSG-15, and if you want a rifle that eats ANY ammo...don't buy. GSG-15 cannot cycle subsonic ammo or Winchester Bulk. Oh yea...and there's an issue with light primer strikes. As for the KEL-TEC, the main issue I hear about is the customer service and availability.

I have 2 Remington 597s one is a VTR with over 10,000 rounds and an AAC with over 2,000 rounds. No issues with either. I also have a GSG StG44 in 22LR, that one is great too. Had a 10/22 got rid of it. Had a Marlin 795, shouldn't have sold that.
 
To the OP, don't give up just yet on the 10/22, you may just need a new extractor as already mentioned above to make it reliable. This is a $22 part from Dlask in Delta BC. Here is a link to what I recommend:

I have shot several 10/22's and a new extractor has made a big difference in each case. In my experience, they cycle any ammo well except for federal blue box bulk.

I saw this in particular last summer on the annual gopher hunt, when my 10/22 ran perfectly on Winchester 333's and jammed perhaps 1 out of 100 (I didn't keep track). My 1/100 failure rate could have simply been the Win 333 bullets fault.

My buddies OTOH, both had 10/22's (stock extractors) and jammed perhaps 10 out of 100 and were pretty frustrated. They were shooting Remington bucket of bullets and Winchester 333's. Things for them got better when they switched to Win 333, but they still had a high rate of jamming compared to myself.

The reason I like the 333's is they expand well on gophers (unlike federal blue box bulk hp's), and are reasonable accurate etc. I know their Quality Control is not best. Not an issue to me.

My son has a plastic Mossberg with a banana clip and he loves it, inexpensive, reliable, shoots all cheap and expensive ammo. Can't remember the model of it offhand. I got it locally as a demo model, was about $200. I've checked the sights on it twice and was surprised at how accurate it is. We went through a few semi autos before settling on the Mossberg.
- 10/22 (sits in safe, never gets used, feeding issues, sight issues, etc)
- 2 different savage semi-autos (fit and finish issues)
- another mossberg (crap accuracy)
Finally this one with the banana clip. I believe it holds around 25 rounds?

Mossberg 715T is a plastic covered piece of scrap metal equals more Junk. Plastic cover Scrap metal.
S&W 15-22 is a Restricted hole punch! No good in Canada except on a Range: more over priced scrap metal.
ISSC MK 22 has door hinge on the stock..pass!
is there anything out there be sides KEL-TEC SU-22CA....i have not found a KEL-TEC SU-22E which is a different stock.....or are there any others out there that are similar to the ones described here?

...a 10/22 but you have to modified it with "KIDD" parts or "Volquartsen" parts! I did just that and it works very well.

GSG 15, some people have had bad luck, mine functions perfectly with any decent ammo. Remington 22lr as crap and should be avoided entirely, no issues so far with any other high velocity ammo after the first 3 mags through it. The sights that come with it are junk and require replacements with a scope/red dot or new irons.

theres several options but for reliability the CZ wins, its like a 10/22 after many upgrades. I don't like upgrading my firearms past stock condition in general so like that its awesome out of the box. my 10/22 required warranty service for a non aligned sights and loose receiver/barrel attachment on the takedown. It came back finely fitted with replacements from Snapshot the warranty place and shoots about equal to my GSG15. Was going to get rid of it but saving it now, will be a great semi for my daughter.

This is the plain girl with buck teeth standing in the corner at the dance, but if you asked her to go out back to hang out, your mind will be blown.

Cooey 64, my grandpa gave me this rifle when I was 12. Its a laser. Mine is currently in pieces because I decided it was due for a cleaning after 20 years. Let me get it back together and I bet it will fit in the 1/2" group thread.

My wife has one of those cheap plastic Mossberg, and it is very accurate too. Some feeding issues though, and so far, two slam fires. I need to take it apart.

Why not just build a 10/22 clone, easy, and you have the satisfaction of creating something personal ind unique.

i have a couple cooeys ..they shoot anything and shoot it well....the 64 is a newer redesigned one ..a partnership. I have a single 30 series and a repeater Both true Cooeys before the factory moved and things changed

My first 10-22 was purchased in 1992. It was reliable, accurate enough for rabbits and possums in NZ and gophers in Saskatchewan. It got threaded for a suppressor in NZ and was sold there - as far as I know it's still killing rabbits and possums.
On my third 10-22. Modifications include - Clark trigger, fluted bull-barrel, dremel modified bolt stop so it doesn't need two hand operation to close, and a hole bored through the back of the receiver to permit cleaning from the breech end without having to dismantle the barrel. Sometimes there's failure to eject and I'm thinking of putting in a new extractor, but it hasn't happened yet.
