I know all the brands and manufacturers...but seriously, which one is the best.

My only requirement is that it accepts AR mags and is chambered in 223/556. Would prefer best value and reliable

Let me know of your experiences and regrets

Stop eating fast food and work out

The money you save on fast food will pay for the gun and getting in shape will help with the weight of the gun :p All jokes aside it does feel like a 7.62 gun.

I hear you and the XCR-L isn't a feather weight either. With optics and a couple of other accessories, mine weighs about 10lbs

Super easy. Just remove the set screw and the barrel comes out. Lots of guys have trouble with accuracy because of this. Short barrels are not available from the factory, only the NR lengths.

Although the Swiss Arms doesn't accept AR mags so technically shouldn't be on your list I just bought one not long ago and it is by far the best built semi auto 223 I have held. It is heavy but I don't find it to be a problem. It is plenty accurate for a battle rifle and I was hitting 20lb propane bottles with mine at 330m yesterday with 55gr American Eagle bulk. The only downside to the rifle I've found is the point of impact shift when using the bipod since the forend isn't floated. If you support the rifle the same way every time it is very accurate. So far it has been 100% reliable after 300-400 rounds. Also extremely easy to field strip for cleaning.

As for the price, A used Swiss is only about $500 or so more than an XCR and built much better. Mags for them are more expensive than for an AR but there is an aftermarket lower available as well as a magwell adaptor so you can use AR mags. I have 6 of the Dominion 5/30's now and the polycarbonate ones I found were $45 each new.

Another rifle to consider would be the AR-180B. I still regret selling mine. It was well made and was very reliable. Similar accuracy to any battle rifle and I probably could have done better with it if I had tried some different ammo to see if the barrel had a preference. Extremely easy to take down for cleaning as well. Hard to find and a little overpriced now because of it but worth a look if you can find a decent deal on one.

Hmmmm, I take my barrel off every time I do a thorough clean and never have I noticed any loss in accuracy.

Simple, reliable, affordable, easy maintenance, good round, average weight. What's not to like?
 
I'm sure Swiss arms is a great rifle, but in terms of value for the money, I think there may be a more inexpensive solution
