Well the season is upon us and I got to thinking about some of the hunting stories I've heard. I know fish stories have a tendency to wander beyond the realm of true but I've heard a few hunting woppers.

A few years back I was at the range, there was an older gent there wandering around talking to anyone who would listen.

"What are you doing"
"Uh" (Well, lets face it, when you're sighting in @ a range, what you are doing should be self explanatory.)
"You zeroing @ 100 yds?"
"No, I'm 3" high @ 100."
"I don't ever shoot past 50."
"Thats nice."
"I shoot my Elk when they are asleep."
"Well done."
"Elk are always bedded down until just after sunrise so I stalk in and shoot them first thing."
"That's great."
"I've shot over 50 Elk this way."
"Sounds like you've got it all figured out."
"You need to learn how to stalk, instead of trying to kill them long distance."
"Ok."

Lets hear them.

Yep; Here's one. Louis tells me while I'm working on his pickup: [blood in box] "Got my moose yesterday" Me: "Figured you must have, saw the blood in the back, what did you shoot it with?" Louis: "My 300 Weatherby, shot it at 800 yards" Me: "That's a mighty long shot, how are you sighted at 100 yards?" Louis: "Oh, I'm about 3" high at 100, puts me dead on at 300" Me: "Tell me, how high did you have to hold to hit that moose out at 800?" Louis: "Oh, I just held right on him, the 300 Weatherby doesn't drop more than an inch between 300 and 800 yards!" Me: "OK Louis, glad to see you filled your freezer." ;) :D [ Me thinking, yeah, right! probably more like 800 feet, but I learned not to get into a pi**ing match with these jokers, plus his money's good for my business.] Regards, Eagleye.

I work part time at an un-named gun store. An older fellow walks into the store one day and while waiting his turn gets the lowdown on the 17HMR from another customer buying one.

When I offer to help him, he wants to see a 17HMR. After showing him a couple it quickly becomes apparent that he wants to see the absolute cheapest one... that's fine, but then he wants to dicker on a $180 Savage, then on the scope, then on ammo.....

After 45 minutes plus of setting the fellow up with a rifle, scope and ammo, he looks me dead in the eye and says:

"I can shoot deer and stuff with this, eh?"

After closing my mouth, I stopped shaking my head long enough to say "NO!"

"Well what can I shoot with it?"

"Biggest thing would be a Coyote."

"Well that's no good to me. What else do you have that I could shoot deer with?"

So, another 20 minutes of looking at rifles he decides a 22-250 is the ticket (he was from BC so it would be legal, but I recommended against it). I stress that the 22-250 is NOT the ideal firearm for what he wants to do with it. That is when it got even better...

"I've shot 3 elk with a 22-250, at 500 yards, so it it will work just fine on deer."

(Me) "Well that is just idiotic."

For some reason he left?!?
