Best "one Shot Kill" cartridge

I'm curious to hear what people say on this:

A guy is going to buy a single shot rifle. He hunts deer, moose and black bear. He decides he best get the one most likely to give 'one shot bang-flops' between 40 and 350 yards?

So, what's the best cartridge for him to choose? Which one gives the most consistant bang-flops provided the shot is good? Is it:

1 - the 300 winmag?

2- the 300 wthby?

3 - the 338 mag?

4 - the 375 h&h?

5 - the 325 wsm? (ahh what the heck, throw 'em a bone i figure. )

6 - something else?

I don't believe that one would be any better than the other, all would be fine if the bullet was sent where it was supposed to go.

The truth is, you would have to shoot a truckload of animals to tlel the difference in any sort of scientific way.

I knwo guys that traded thier 300Weatherbys for 375 H&H's to get better kills, and guys that went back to their 300WM's because they found that thier 338 or 375 didn't kill any faster.

On that list I've killed wiht the 300WM, (300WSM too), 338 WM and 375 H&H, and only the 375 wiht 300g bullets really seemed to have a really big difference in "knock down/bang floppage"

I haven't seen much of a difference between the 338 and 300, but I guess someone coudl prove it with energy numbers!:D
 
My 338 RUM did that 4 times this fall, though it might be a bit much for deer. But they were dead very quickly so maybe not and it has the same energy as a 30-06 at the muzzle at 300 yards. :)
 
First of all Bullet placement is critical , secondly, kinetic energy, momentum, sectional density, diameter, nose configuration, and impact velocity will determine killing power for the weight animal your after. :runaway:
Which equals .338 :p :D
 
yukon natural resources put out a publication for hunters coming to the yukon for moose and bear hunting. they say don't bother bringing your 375 ouch&ouch if you can shoot your 30-06 well.

the 30-06 dispaches things just fine. but if you don't mind recoil theres nothing wrong with flipping a moose over 3 times and slamming it to the ground, like a 1000lbs pdog.
 
No such thing as a 100% guaranteed one shot kill on any game from any calibre. None of those cartridges are required for deer, bear or moose either.

This was largely my reaction. But, in fairness the biggest gun i've actually seen anyone kill something with is the 300 wthby. So i was curious if people'd noticed more 'bangflops' with the others.

Interesting some feel the 375, some feel the 338 is marginally better. I'd be curious to hear what people think who've actually shot game with both .. you've got one shot, which one is the better?

(actually i'm a little disappointed as well, i thought for sure there'd be a LITTLE more fighting over this :) )
 
"bangflops" is where you went a stray :D Cause bangflops , in most cases means , get back up and run. Bang thump is my game, maybe take out a chunk or 2 of rib, and watch the animal go on its short treck to a place where I will find it dead. :p :D
