Best "one Shot Kill" cartridge

That's what i use. The 'concern' was over the fact he only had 'one shot' so which is the best 'one shot gun' for killing game. Especially with black bear in the mix.

Although, i have heard from those who use one shots like the ruger or the contender that with a little practice you can get pretty quick at reloading anyway.
I used a Ruger No 1 in 280 for a spell.......took some Bears with it and never felt undergunned nor was a fast follow up shot a concern, although Yes with Practise it can be done pretty quick;) especially since half of the fellas I see using repeaters drop the rifle from thier shoulder to cycle the action anyways:rolleyes:

To keep with the theme of the thread though I firmly believe as others have said "shot placement" has much more to do with "bang flops" then cartridge choice:)

I agree - but it was more an exercise in "all else being equal - what's the best". We all know that bad shooting can't be corrected with a bigger gun. :) (now, if we could just get that message into the major gun writer's heads, that'd be nice.)

7mm

I have great knock down performance with all my guns cause i try to make sure shot placement is crucial, but i have had my custom 7mm RM do some big moose in at long ranges immediately with 160gr partitions.

Well then I would say it depends on Shot preference....

Behind the shoulder classic lungshots No difference. I've never noticed anything die any quicker regardless of calibre when shot through the lungs. Can't really say I've noticed a difference in damage either:confused:
Popped lung is a popped lung IMO. Generally the entrance wound...smashed lungs and or heart with a 1-3" exit wound out the other side, this is from the .260 on up to various 300 mags and a few with the 45-70.

Now if one wanted to "smash the shoulders" then I'd certainly say Bigger is better......a 260 will not "punch" and smash serious bone like a 375 will no doubt about that.

I guess in the Grand scheme of things Bigger is always better then...or at least more versatile to Handle "ALL" shooting scenarios.

The Single shot 1 rifle Hunter looking for the ideal North American big game cartridge to handle broadside lung shots on deer to smashing the shoulders of a Brown Bear.......?
Hard to fault the 375 H&H then I suppose :)

I do not think that there is a problem with the major gun writers. I think that the problem is with the major manufacturers, that feed the writers. I think that if we were stuck with wincheser and remingtin and maybe one other and in only 33-30, 30-06 and 7 mm Rem (or you pic your three) we would probably kill just about as much game! But what would we talk about?

30-06 vs 7 mag of course :) It's in our nature to argue about SOMETHING..

Holy crap..something intelligent....:runaway:

The truth is, you would have to shoot a truckload of animals to tlel the difference in any sort of scientific way.

I knwo guys that traded thier 300Weatherbys for 375 H&H's to get better kills, and guys that went back to their 300WM's because they found that thier 338 or 375 didn't kill any faster.

On that list I've killed wiht the 300WM, (300WSM too), 338 WM and 375 H&H, and only the 375 wiht 300g bullets really seemed to have a really big difference in "knock down/bang floppage"

I haven't seen much of a difference between the 338 and 300, but I guess someone could prove it with energy numbers!:D
HAHAHAHAHA some times i do have something smart to say lol it may be hard to believe but it is true...
I personally like the 300 win mag but i also like the 375 H&H. It all comes down to what you can shoot more accurately. If you can put up a 1" 3 shot group with 300 win why go with a 375 H&H that you may flinch with and miss your target completely or wound the animal.

I think he may have wanted to eat some of the animal :) Plus - i doubt he'll want to have to explain things to the warden if the deer happens to land in a management zone where it's out of season or something.
Haha ok then...I'm sure that changes it a bit.
