I'd go with the "black arrow" guide from m14.ca!I definitely noticed an improvement in mine. No problems with my original polytech M305 spring mine came with. Some like to switch the spring to USGI, but i'd try the original spring with the "black arrow" first to see if it gets the results you're looking for.
nice. I will get the black arrow one and give it a shot. It is also the least expensive option and they accept (FRAUD ALERT)!
Lastly do i have to replace the spring now? My M305 is new. I have put less then 100 down the pipe. But I did try my handloads and got an acceptable group of 3" at 100. So the rifle is worth tuning.
if your spring is 15"" or more, it's good to go. it will work as well as an unobtainium spring. Chinese springs and USGI springs are slightly different diameter, be sure the spring guide matches.
S&J hardware has their op rod springs on sale right now.
FWIW I have a S&J Hardware guide rod in one rifle and M14 Medic guide rods in my other two (one fluted And one standard) and they all work great. I can't see or feel a difference in performance between them.
also, if you can get to one of Hungry's Tactical Teacher M14 clinics you will learn a ton.
