Best out of the box 1911 under $1000.00

This is a fairly overwhelming vote in favor of the Spartan. Thanks for the info. If I buy new it will most likely be the one!

Most people here seem to dislike Taurus, few of them have actual experiance with them and once that do usually have a problem with the customer service. With a PT1911 you can use other 1911 part if you need to... I have no experiance with the Sparan but I know it's not a forged steel gun like PT1911(frame, slide, barrel). Try and handle one before you dissmise it.

If you decide to buy a Spartan, buy it from Gunar. He never did any job for me because I am a pistolsmith myself. But I saw a number of his jobs, and all of them were superb. You cannot go wrong with Gunar.

You can get an STI Ranger II for just over a grand, if not you can get a nice colt from Arms East for about or just under a grand.

BUL M5 ... if you can fit your hand around the fat grip.

Comes with Coned/Ramped SS barrel, lots of quality bits and pieces inside, and is a seriously well built piece of kit at a very reasonable price.

Of course, if the BUL doesn't fit your hand ... then probably a Spartan.

Personally, if I were looking for a new 1911 under $1,000 and couldn't abide a Norc, I'd be looking for one without the Series 80 type firing pin safety block junk in them.

But then that's just me.

Nope, you can have Taurus 1911 for under $1000 tax included. I had one in stainless for over a year now and pretty happy with it. Only thing I changed were the grips :)

Lugger - That Taurus looks good.... must be 'cause it's a 1911..... :p

Anyway, on the grips, are they actually that wide or is it an optical illusion? Grip looks like it would be as much a handfull as a double stack!

I'm a big fan of the Para's. No idea what these few haters are talking about.

Personally, I'm not a Para hater..... just not interested in buying one now..... Was seriously looking at a used/excellent Para SSP this past Spring. I passed on it but someone else bought it right after. Had nothing but trouble with the original firing pin safety junk in it locking up the slide. Turned out the lever in the frame kept popping up and jamming the slide. The 'smith finally ordered the filler bits from Brownells to replace the internal bits that were jamming it and after it was running well for the buyer last I heard.

I also have to give a thumbs up to Taurus 1911. Stainless and some decent parts, for $800, hard to beat. If you shop around, you can also get a nice colt commander for under a $1000, also stainless.
