what is the best ''all weather''out of the box semi automatic 22,in terms of function, accuracy, reliability and value? Not interested in aftermarket stuff-just a truck grouse gun

The one that suits you best in terms of feel, look, and price.
All the rifles mentioned above have their strengths and weaknesses, and every different rifle will garner varying opinions. If you can, handle as many different ones that you are able to, and make your decision from there.

Aiwa,
Are you directing that comment towards me? My comments are not an "attack" on anything other than unfounded claims backed up by personal experiences. Its one thing to comment about your experiences. Its quite another to proclaim that your experiences are gospel.

It's all good, dude. We're coming from the same point of view.

Been shooting my 10/22 since the late 60's. It's ready to be loaded and go anytime. Never fails never jams. Shoots dang near as good as my Anshutz. Got a heavy match chambered barrel for it but it shoots better with the original. 40yrs of reliable service says 10/22 for me. Bet my grandchildren will love it to if I ever have any;)

By "all weather" is the thread starter referring to stainless firearms or is he looking for a firearm than is capable of handling all weather? If his question is th e later than my comment still stands. Any blued firearm will handle the elements just as well. Its a matter of care and maintenance.

I like the Marlin 795 I picked up several years ago. Good price, nice and accurate, great little plinker!! Synthetic stock, nickle plated magazine, well blued barrel and receiver. Would definately stand the elements.

i have a 597 in 17 hmr and its a great little gun i'm pretty happy with it can't wait to get 10/22 so i can buy some of those long funky mags

I'm sure aftermarket goodies will be made for the Remy's. :)

And if they don't build many goodies it only says that they don't need as many as the 10/22. :D

Guys:

Don't count out the Marlin Papoose.
It's very compact, light and very accurate.
I just bought one and am totally impressed.
Takes up no space in my truck or my back pack.

How bout the AR-7? It'd be a perfect truck gun.

As far as the 10/22 goes.... I've never met a factory out-of-the-box one that meets the 'accuracy' and 'reliable' criteria. They're VERY picky about the ammo they'll feed and extract well. While they are fin little guns and definitely have their place, I'd would certainly NOT recommend one for this particular application

I've got a (Henry) AR-7; it needed some tweaking to make it a smooth semi-auto operator - so I'm not entirely sure its the best "out-of-the-box"...

Having said that, it's grand fun to tote around (very, very light), and with an extended bolt-handle it makes for a fine straight-pull, even if that was not its intended function.

I own a Marlin 60 SSK.
Very solid, light, accurate, great overall .22
Stock sights are a tad ####ty but nothing a cheap scope won't fix -- I topped mine with a Bushnell 3-9 40$ scope and it's great!
