Best over/under around $2000

is this the Synergy? or that is a different model. I shot the synergy when we shot skeet and it was enjoyable however i dont really like that modern/sleak looking action

Excuse my ignorance but if someone could give me a honest/abbreviated run down of a sporting VS hunting? also is ported an important detail to consider in purchase?

I will read up more on both however it's nice to have someone give an informed opinion

The CXS is a Citori, proven and reliable to stand up to a lot of use and will last you a lifetime of weekly use. Personally not a fan of the Cynergy and wouldn’t recommend.

Good advice on picking up a used gun given and all boils down to what you want and what feels right to you. Suggest you try as many as possible at the range of other shooters to see what works for you.

I could type a page on Sporting gun versus Field gun but your better off to hit the web and let Google do the search.

The CXS stands for a crossover gun both for hunting and Sporting.

Owning both ported and non ported shotguns I don’t see any difference however at 6’3” I soak up recoil pretty well. Lot of the theory being is it reduces recoil and muzzle flip for the second follow up shot but can’t say I’ve noticed.

I've shot the Cynergy with synthetic stock and the balance was all wrong with weight forward of the hands. In truth do not know if that is the case with the walnut-stocked field model. I shoot a 32" Citori Skeet SX with adjustable comb that would make a poor field gun due to weight but terrific for clay sports. Purchased used for $2k. Now at 40,000 rounds and could probably sell for what I paid or close to it (if I wanted to sell but I don't). In terms of what can be made to shoot well for you, do not underestimate the value of an adjustable comb.

Barrel porting was all the rage 15 or 20 years ago with a lot of claims being made about how it reduced recoil and reduced muzzle rise. Shooters have (for the most part) come to realize that it was mostly a marketing ploy and that the benefits of porting on a shotgun are minimal at best. I believe that Browning is the only manufacturer still doing it to their sporting guns, maybe they didn't get the memo about it being a fad.
I wouldn't let barrel porting affect my decision whether to buy or not to buy if you find something you like.

Don’t buy a potted gun. It’s a gimmick that is worthless on a hunting gun.

I shoot both a Cynergy and a Citori, I like them both however with 30 or 32” barrels the cynergy is front heavy. Any browning O/U will serve you well, but it is a soft used market right now so you could definitely score a tremendous deal on a used gun. I’d like to try a Cxs 20ga with 30” tubes I think it would be a good all around gun.

Really appreciate all the advice guys, thanks a lot I will update once I choose somthing gotta keep saving those pennies!

In a new gun , Fabarm Elos field is hard to beat --- light enough for hunting and heavy enough for clays --minimum recoil because of their tri-bore system. If they fit you -- they are all 1 1/2 inch at comb and 2 1/4 at heel.
Luck!

Citori White Lightning for sure. I have 12 & 20 gauge. I shot lots of skeet with my 12 gauge but a little heavy to carry around hunting birds. The 20 gauge on the other hand is just perfect.
