Best Peep Sight for Marlin 1895?

Must be a new addition, none of mine feature that. Just good old metal on metal.

Yea he started to put lead shot in the set screw hole.

To the OP either Skinner or XS for me. Skinner for a classy looking tough peep or Xs for a more modern look and tough

A sight that used to be popular on lever actions was a tang mounted peep sight like those from Marble Arms. One potential advantage of the tang mounted sight is that the elevation adjustment can be low enough that the factory front sight will be suitable, whereas you usually need a taller front sight when you install a receiver sight. Since the aperture of the tang sight is closer to your eye, you can choose a smaller aperture than you could with a receiver sight, which, in theory, improves precision, without loosing speed.

I had Skinner sights on one of my 1895 I ended up selling that gun and bought a GBL and did not like the skinners so I bought the Xs and they are the best I've used but I only use my gun for bear protection and close range walking through the bush

My preference is the XS sights for the 1895 Marlin. I like the winged version that's available through Brownells.

I have one Skinner for a different gun and am having trouble recommending them. I really don't like how the aperture is held in place by a sacrificial piece of lead shot. On the XS system, the post of the aperture is held in place by flats machined into the threads. Does it really matter? Probably not but I may be missing something. My 2 cents...

I agree
