Best Peep Site for Win 94?

I think most have a Lyman or Williams on their Winchester. I have a Lyman on a Marlin and everything stays tight and it is easy to adjust. FYI

I've used both. The Lyman all steel is the nicest, but the Williams FP works just as well.

If it was an older rifle, I'd look for an older Lyman to match the gun.

.

Personally, I prefer the older steel ones, Lyman, Redfield, Marbles, etc., although the newer aluminum ones certainly work.

Williams FP is on my 1962 Win 94 (factory holes on left side of the receiver)

All steel would be nice but even the new Lymans are not steel.

There are options on the Williams as to the adjusting mechanism. One model has easier adjustments to the sight than the other. Williams has this explained on their website.

I'm partial to the tang type peep sites, expecially for older Winchesters. The older models were drilled/tapped on the tang for them. Got one on my 1892 vintage Win '86 in .45-70...

But for modern '94's you can't go wrong with a quality receiver mounted peep site.

I like the Williams as well. I've uded the 5D and the FP. Both are good units.
I like the fact that the Lyman is all steel. I just don't own one.
BTW, receiver peeps that fit top-eject '94's will also fit most pre-crossbolt Marlins. Kind of handy if you switch rifle brands.

You'll love it. But do yourself a favour and order the medium twilight aperture. I find the supplied aperture too large for my liking. I shoot better with the medium, and find it adequately large for hunting, even in heavy brush. Some shooters prefer an even larger aperture in the thick stuff and will remove the insert. See what you prefer, anyway. The smallest aperture is a great one to use at the range, but I wouldn't hunt with it under normal conditions. I know SIR sells apertures; who else may have them is a mystery to me. Enjoy the sight!
BTW, I have a Williams FP on my 336A and mounted a Williams Firesight up front. I'm still getting used to the thickness of the Firesight compared to the factory bead, but my initial groups are around 2.5 inches for 3 shots at 100 yards....easily accurate enough for hunting. You may want to consider the Firesight, especially if, as frequently happens, your front sight is too short to use with the receiver sight. If this happens, the rifle will shoot high even with the sight adjusted as low as it can go.
I take it you're in the Ottawa area. Benny's pro shop at the Stittsville range stocks Firesights if you want one. Hopefully you won't need to swap front sights. A friend and I both had 1970's-vintage '94's with Williams peeps. His was a 5D, mine was an FP. My rifle shot 3" high at 100 yards with most ammo. His shot about 6 or 7 inches high, so he had a friend braze a piece of copper wire onto the top of his sight, and that did the trick. He once used that rifle to drop a good-sized buck at over 200 yards.

That's interesting, personally I wouldn't hunt with an old 99Sav without a tang but find them clumsy & in the way on a winchester. I prefer a Lyman reciever on winnys :)

As for aperatures, I have a drawer full somewhere, never use them even for targets. While the smaller hole does make for slightly more accurate target shooting I find it trains you to pay attention to the peep itself which is something you don't want to do while hunting.
