Just as the title reads, where would be the best place to pick up one of these rifles? Please only reply if you've actually bought one of these.

I want to pick up one of these rifles to tuck away as an investment piece.

Thanks for your input.

I got mine from P&S - great transaction like always. I like Westrifle, but like you, I opted for a refurbed original over a recent "put-together".

Got mine from Westrifle 43 Tula scope installed, very nice bore and stock is in fine shape, shoots very nice. Cheapest sniper to shoot in Canada :D

Take my sniper rifle. Buy original scope on ebay and you get one of the "non-reproduction" as everyone claim Mosin. Also you can use my scope because it is better (nitrogen filled ) and then when you are ready to sell and get big bucks for it in 20 years sell it with original scope. You can also buy mine and sell my scope on ebay and use original. Your choice

... How about no.

i got one from Jean at P&S and one from Weimajack bouth are beabtiful rifles with excelant bores .Jean from P&S guns and militira still as a good selection of both tula and ishvesk rifles im sure he would be more than happy to help you.I have bought a few guns from him and they were always as described, good guy to deal with

I know Westrifle will disagree with what I'm about to state as an opinion, and that's fine. I've had nothing but good things to say about Westrifle and they offer a nice product - this is not personal.

But, my verdict on the refurbed originals is that they are orignal as advertised. I have owned a handful of non-refurb original PU snipers over the years, enough to know what a real one looks like. These recent imports started life as factory snipers - I am certain of that. The receivers are finished too nicely for the years they were made as they got the better fectory finish for a smooth mating surface for the scope mount. The sniper markings are in the right place in the right font on the Tulas and all the Izhevsks have the old scope numbers ground away and new ones re-applied.

I suspect they were refurbed more recently than some dealer claim, like within the last 10 years recent, but they were done at the original factories (that still exist) using real original production parts. The scopes are 1940's and 1950's era scopes. Most of the scopes, IMHO, are post-war though unless marked with a WW2 date.

The westrifle guns are niecely made on rifles selected for the right receiver traits and clean bores, but they never saw service as snipers and all the "sniper parts" are new-made.

Both options would serve a shooter well. In fact the Westrifle product is perhaps better for a shooter that uses his rifle in all conditions. As a collector though, I opted for something that served in WW2 as a real sniper rifle and has only original parts fitted.

The intent is not to shoot the rifle for as long as I own it. This is strictly an investment piece so its critical that it's all original, or as original as is available.

I've got a standard infantry rifle with a scout stlye modern scope that I use for blasting surplus and the occasional soft point.

These rifles have totally grown on me. When I bought my first I just seemed crude and ugly - but now... They're gorgeous. Totally an acquired taste.

They do tend to grow on you,and to this point I have managed to aquire several of the sniper rifle versions, including a VZ54...If you want a collector piece and not a shooter try to find an orginal,or source a recent import from P&S or Wie...,a shooter Westrifle has them,...and not just Mosins with a scope attached but refurbed un snipered as well...your choice
