My LGS is only bringing them in pre-mounted in Tapco stocks. I am looking for an original and would prefer laminate if possible. Where in your experience is the best place to order one from online? Would also prefer Russian over Chinese. Thanks.

Thanks. I'm just concerned as I won't be able to see or handle the rifle in person first. The ones I have seen in the past had so much variation in condition. Any tips on how I can ensure I get a good one?

Many of our site sponsors carry SKSs. You should generally be paying $180-220. Although just for ascetics laminate stocks are more desirable and command prices on the higher end.
Apparently the Chinese SKSs are not as available anymore. I haven't seen the Chinese models in laminate either so your more than likely looking for Russian. As for Russian the Tula armory marked rifles are more common than the Izhevsk marked ones

TradeEx has sks and 1320 rounds of ammo combo in stock. I've ordered from them before with great service.
Corwin arms are also great guys, just got my scope in from them yesterday. Great Service.

+1 Corwin-Arms. Martin know his stuff when it comes to the Red Rifles. He will not sell a bad one.

The price variation for the ones he has for sale ($198-$277) will have nothing to do with how well it shoots or how accurate it is - he hand picks every one he sells, as far as I can tell - but will be depending on how collectible/uncommon of a flavour it is.

For reference: When I asked for a "hand select" 91/30 from him earlier this year, it still only cost me $195, and it was a non-refurbished, near mint, 1938, all matching numbers, with even a numbers matching bayonet. I have no idea how he gets hold of quality milsurps like what he carries, yet manages to keep the prices so reasonable.

Ask around, you'll get similar references for Corwin-Arms from pretty much any CGN'er who's dealt with him.
