A couple friends and I are looking around to buy a bit of bulk .22LR. So far out of the site sponsors it seems Wolverine has the best price, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a place with better prices, either online, or in the GTA.
Also, is there anywhere you can buy shorts in bulk?
Here's the chart comparing the different retailers, etc.

Walmart seems to beat out everyone when it comes to 22LR prices. Winchester 550 packs are $18.99, they are 36 grain copper plated hollowpoints.
They also sell the federal 525 bulk packs for somewhere around $23.

I have put thousands of both brands through my 10/22 with few hiccups.

As painful as it is to buy from a place like walmart they do have great prices. Also just incase I get flamed for not advocating that you buy from a sponsor or even an actual gun shop, when they match walmart prices I will be happy to buy from them.

Oh wow, definitely going to have to check that out tomorrow then. That's a great price, thanks so much!
Is there anywhere you can buy Aguila Match in Canada?

Walmart might beat the price by $3 per 500, but for the extra $3 I personally would still support Canadian retailers...........not flaming, just saying.........

On the flip side, thanks a bunch Pooker for doing an online price comparisson. Makes my life easier.

Ive noticed walmart has increased all prices from $2-3 dollars for all winchester and federal bricks of .22lr and also $2-3 increase in winchester universal 100 shotshells

I like to get the blazer bulk 500 packs. (One with 10 50 round boxes inside, for some reason they shoot better and its handy to be able to grab 50 rounds and toss in your pocket

I feel you, but shipping kills any savings you might incur. For example, Wolverine had the cheapest Federal Champion, but after shipping and HST ($88.xx), the price is nearly the same as buying 10 boxes from CanAm with the free shipping. If my local Walmart has it in stock for $18.99+tax, I obviously don't have to pay to have it shipped, and end up paying significantly less.

Oh, and about the chart, just keep in mind that the prices listed are after tax, HST (13%).

Depending where you are in the GTA, WalMart might not even sell ammo. When I lived in Etobicoke for 2 years people at WalMart gave me a funny look when I asked them where their ammo was (tried Etobicoke, Vaughn, etc.)

Also, have you ran any through your guns? I bought the federal 525 at Walmart last time and it worked like a charm; maybe 3 or 4 FTF through the whole box. Recently I thought Id try the Winchester since it has 30 more bullets and its 5 dollars cheaper, but I get FTF almost every 3rd or 4th bullet. Rim fire guns are notoriously picky.

I know in the past Peavy Mart beat everyone around my town. American Eagle red box, plated round nose or plated hollow point. But it has been awhile since I bought any, so can't say that still holds true.

I'm actually in Barrie. I only mentioned the GTA since there are more gun stores in the GTA than in the Barrie area that I would be willing to travel to if necessary. The WalMarts in town stock ammo so I'm good to go there.
In the past I've bought mostly Winchester Wildcat or SuperX since that's mostly all Canadian Tire has stocked. Though recently both CT and WalMart have drastically improved their hunting sections, so I'll have to look and see what they have. I too have gotten quite a few FTFs with Winchester, though for general plinking I don't really see it as too big of a deal. I had two yesterday out of my Marlin M39 out of a box of 50  I can't recall buying Federal, but it seems to have a pretty decent rep. If I can find CCI locally I'd be more prone to pick up a few boxes of it, since it always seems to run perfectly.

For dirt cheap .22LR, Le Baron has the best prices on Remington Thunderbolt $17.63 for 500.

But I'd rather pay the extra couple bucks for CCI Blazer. I like to get most of my bulk from Al Simmons or Lanz.

If it comes down to buying from WalMart or spending a few dollars more and buying local, I'm afraid I'm going to buy local. Same with gun shops, same with everything. If we don't support local businessmen/women, there will be no more local business left. The Internet market has personally screwed me in my business of choice, as international shipping has become more and more cost-effective. I know that if I buy anything from that god-forsaken hole in the wall, I am supporting poorly paid manufacturing labor, poorly paid suppliers and anti-union corporate culture.

One reason the American economy has flagged is that they no longer supply means of production of any of their own consumables. Let's not make the same mistakes - Co-op sells ammo in some places, as does your locally owned and operated gunshops. Even the online guys getting a profit makes a lot of sense to me; they're mostly still Canadian.

With roots. And families.

Woah, Andy. Enough of a rant already. :/

Well said..I feel the same way about the clothes, footwear, food and pretty much eveything I buy...keep our money and jobs here in Canada.

Cheapest copper plated .22lr I have found is the Winchester 555 bulk packs. They are I think $22 and change from SAIL outdoors (based in Montreal).

Cheapest .22lr period is Winchester Wildcats from LeBarons. I think it was $15.99 last time I bought some for a 500 round box. Price may have gone up.

I've had nothing but problems from the Winchester .22 ammunition. I bought the bulk pack before (because the Federal I normally get for the 10/22 and others was sold out and I was on my way out shooting) and I was getting failures to eject and jams3 out of 10 shots AT LEAST. The next time I went to the range and I saw some 10 year old kid with his dad shooting his very first .22 rifle (Bolt action) I just walked over and placed the box with it's remaining 400+ rounds there and said "Welcome to the world of target practice) and walked away. The grin that the kid got was priceless.

Wow, sorry long story to say "I'm Never Buying Winchester .22 Again" :p
