Best place to buy casting equipment?

For some of my stuff, like spoons and skimmers, I buy at thrift stores.

My "rough melting" pot is a Dutch Oven that was given to me. I cannibalized a turkey fryer to get the rest of the setup going (Walmart)

Ingot molds are angle iron molds I welded up in the shop at the farm.

I bought my melting pots over the counter at Wholesale or Cabella's.

It depends on what you think you will be happy with. A lot of guys say that LEE is garbage, yet I've got several LEE molds that serve me well. I've ordered LEE straight from the factory, and bought stuff from Phishroy here on Gunnutz.

If you're lucky, you'll find a source of lead close to home. Otherwise, you'll get raped over the shipping fees. Good luck on finding lead. I lucked out on finding a scrap yard that would sell to the public.

I got a lee bottom pour from cabelas. Lee moulds can be found on amazon. I get my lead for free so can't help there. You can also order these tools form the USA. Noe makes some very good quality moulds and other casting tools.

lee molds are the way to go for trying out casting and seeing if you want to stick with it. They work great for me but they aren't as good as the higher end molds. I could never understand people who would pay $120+ for molds when my lee molds worked great. I have 10 or so of those expensive molds I see why now. I almost feel bad using them when I get new ones because they looks so ###y lol. I still use my lee molds happily though.

Consider a proper respirator rated for lead fumes for when you are working with molten lead. Especially if you are working in an enclosed space, with insufficient ventilation.
If you do a lot of casting, blood tests for lead level would be something to consider as well.

Lead does not give off fumes at casting temperatures
