Hi Everyone,
I'm a novice reloader, have only loaded about 150 rounds or so now, without any troubles. I am having trouble finding powders though.
Does anyone know of a good online distributor that caries basically all of of Hodgodon's powders? For me i'm looking for Benchmark, H322 and Varget, preferably in the 8lb jugs. However it's proving difficult to get a hold of!

Where do you buy your powders? P.S. bass pro in vaughn seems to be consistently $10 more expensive on the 1lb jugs than everyone else. I'm specifically trying to avoid buying reloading components with them.

Budget Shooter Supply, sponsor at top of page. Henry is an outstanding to deal with and would definitely recommend him.

Henry is good. I've purchased items off him a few times now. Being in Calgary, we are guaranteed 2 day delivery so I'm pretty happy with the setup. Good prices too.

Hummasons has good inventory and very good prices. They take cash and debit. No credit cards. call ahead to find out what they have and then place the order before you drive out. They need a day to get powder from their bunker to the store.

Anyone have any experience with Higginson Powder? I found them browsing the listings on the Hodgdon website.

They seem very well priced and stocked. (the website is www.higginsonpowders.com)
Andrew Higginson is a great person. Excellent service. However, I believe he is closed next week for a family function. Store closings are on the web site. Andrew runs a one man show.

for bulk stuff yes, Higginson or Hummason.

that being said, for the most popular hodgdon powders, lebaron is the cheapest, but stock levels are not the best.

otherwise for a bit more, but stock go to rouge river arms (404 and wellington, 2 exits past stouffville road where target sports is).

When I was looking around for 25 lbs of powder, Hummasons was by far the cheapest, even with shipping, I was surprised that is was even lower than higginsons.

Looking online it appears you got a 7lb. Not 8.

I was wondering why it was so cheap.
Copied and pasted from the Hummason Price List:

VAR8 VARGET POWDER 8LB. 163.00

An acquaintance at my Club used to make 'supply runs' and I purchased more than a few pounds and thousands of bullets over the years, too.

Whomever you buy from, forming a small "buying group" to build a large order will minimize the effect of the hazmat surcharge.
Or arrange to get delivery at a Hummason or similar scheduled drop point. Some vendors will waive the hazmat fee
for larger orders.

I've dealt with Higginson's a lot over the years. (two generations of the family). It's a family business.
Andrew isn't the only one currently working there in my experience,
but he's likely the primary point of contact for orders.

Higginson's sells their larger powder units from bulk stocks (licensed re-packager),
so those will be in anti-static poly bags in individual cardboard boxes. Save your own powder containers
if you want more convenient packaging. Remember to do a *good* job of labeling your own,
including transferring the lot number detail.

Every time I buy Varget from Hummason's it appears to be in a Hogdon 8 lbs plastic jug, sealed, right from the factory. It's $163 plus taxes so I give buddy $200 to include a small handling fee that he did NOT ask for. So in other words all in, to my door I am paying $25/lbs. Last time I need 1 pound to finish off the season the local gun store bent me over for $36 and taxes, yup almost $41 bucks for a pound of powder. Bastard didn't even give me a reach around.

Yep, that's why I was asking. Bass pro took 39 before tax for a pound of benchmark. It was insane.

I get 8 pound kegs from higginsons all the time. The trick is to ask for them.the difference in price to humanson is about 5 bucks a pound in favor of hummason, but higginsons pays the freight on 21 pound orders so at that size order it's a wash. After 20 pounds hummason pulls away hard because kits the same 100 bucks up to 400 pounds. For 1 case, keg or a few pounds just pay the local guy what he wants. Price of convience.

I bought powder from Higginsons in 8lb Hodgdon factory jugs since they didnt have what I wanted in their bulk 7lb boxes at that time. I was happy with the price and service, picked it up myself instead of shipping.

You might also call then drive out to Williams Arms in Port Perry. They don't usually keep 8lb jugs at the shop.
