ok i think i've decided on getting the lock n load auto progressive press, and primarily use it for .45 auto. whole sale sports lists it for like 600 or something... and cabelas website has it on special for 350 regular 370 or something, im assuming thats american and it would come out of the states, is there any perticular place u guys would suggest i look, any sponsors of this site have it listed for less or at least close to that price?
probably gunna go with a set of rcbs carbide dies if that sounds good to u guys?

also, rather then wait to get it, and then realize theres other s**t i should have ordered at the same time.. i'd like to order all now. so what sort of other s**t am i gunna need to get reloading for this caliber? any upgrades that are worthwhile? it would be nice to get it all in one shot. thanks a bunch

oh yeah, i've done some research on that rcbs lockout die, part number 87540 for straight walled pistol cases only, and that is gunna be integrated somehow if at all possible

Lockstock is good... They are $355. The dollar has been good so buy now. You'll need a shell plate, dies, you can get the hornady powder cop possibly cheaper than the rcbs. You'll need LNL bushings for any extra dies you'll want. The press comes with a rifle powder rotor so you'll need the pistol rotor and possibly the micrometer if you so choose. You may also what the powder through expanders although I don't think they work well as you have to put pressure on the powder measure and linkage to expand the case. A system I don't like. You may want a case feeder also.

thanks, im not the greatest with this #### yet, whats the diff between .45 auto rim and .45 acp win mag? oh and um, what exactly is a powder rotor? and micrometer? i think i know what a micrometer is, but im a lil confused in this context. thanks

with the case feeder, it just keeps them tubes full of empty cases right? like u can get by without it, just gotta stop and reload the tubes manually? probably sound like an idiot by now, ohwell

There is no tube without the case feeder. You don't need the case feeder and to be honest it won't save too much time. You will simple have to put a case into the shell plate manually.

The rotor is for the powder measure. There are only two kinds one for pistol and one for rifle. The LNL AP for some unknown reason comes with the rifle measure. I know it makes absolutely no sense and I am sure most of the time a progressive is purchased for pistol. The micrometer is not required but it lets you dial in loads with great repeatability.

As for 45 auto rim and win mag I am not very familiar with. I would think 45 ACP is the one most people shoot but it looks as if the same dies may work for all.

ok got 'er figured, thanks much, yeah on my list of #### to get tomrrow is a micrometer, along with a dial caliper i guess, if i can find 'em for a reasonable price, yeah, i think i can afford the time to put a casing in the shell plate manually... versus the extra money anyway.. yikes that thing is expensive.

im guessing you got a setup identical to this? how do you have yours setup? like what kind of dies where etc?

just lookin on the hornady site again, did you by chance mean the 'micrometer pistol insert'? lets u dispense one grain at a time etc....

Yes the pistol micrometer insert. You need to buy the pistol rotor and standard metering insert to use the pistol micrometer as the powder measure comes with the rifle rotor. Make sure you buy carbide dies!!! I have RCBS for 45 ACP and 9mm. I just bought Redding for 44 mag. I haven't tried them yet but they are supposed to be way smoother for sizing because of the titanium nitride. So I would suggest buying Redding if you can. I have the case feeder but I am not sure I would recommend it yet. If you don't have a powder scale buy one to set the powder charge.

I bought my through Cabelas.

+1 on the pistol rotor, you'll need one

(the horady website does not have the best prices, its worth to look around)

ok, thanks guys, i have an rcbs chargemaster (digital powder dispenser scale combo) for a rifle setup i've got on the go, i guess u can just rougly set a charge with the pistol rotor/micrometer/standard insert or whatever then weigh / double check with a regular scale, then once u got 'er to where you want it, your good to go, just check every 100 or so. (please correct me if im wrong)

if you use yours for .45, do you by chance know if your shell plate is .45 acp winmag or .45 auto rim?

theres somethin fishy on the hornady website, im lookin at the part number for the shell holders/plates on the site, and they match the chart (linked from each page) for the .45 auto rim cartridge, but the numbers for the .45 acp -win mag dont match from the site, to the chart they supply, hmmm

on there site again, under where it lists the press for 455 or whatever it lists 2 different dust covers, one for the regular ap, and one for the ap w/ case feeder, do i need one of these?
