Best place to buy in Montreal area

I'm looking to purchase my first long range rifle, in either 308 or 30-06. I got my SKS at leBaron ( hated the experience) and my wife's Remington 597 .22lr at Dante ( only marginally better experience).

Any Montreal and area residents know of a good shop that will take some time with me and steer me right. While price is an issue, I'd rather buy the right rifle and scope and spend a bit more, than hate my gear afterwards.

I would recommend you to buy your rifle online.
There is a few excellent online dealer in Canada delivering outstanding service. Check with Wolverine supply or Wanstalls.
Concerning the in-store experience you had with both Dante and sail Baron, same for me and a lot more other shooter around here. You'd better to pass on it and head to real professional dealers online (read the reviews on CGN to avoid some bad online stores).

I had lebaron's "gunsmith" install a scope for me, HUGE mistake. I was so busy with work at the time I just dropped it off and picked it up a few days later. Went to sight it in a couple weeks later and I had to max out the adjustments to the left to get it at best shooting 4" left at 200 yards. I got lucky to only have deer under 100 yards so it was ok for hunting but I will definitely be buying a wheeler scope kit and re-installing it myself this summer. Had to pass on a deer at about 250 yards because I didn't quite trust my scope.

Never dealt with Dante myself, but have heard nothing but good things from people who have. The only places I'd consider would be Performance Chasse et peche in Repentigny, they always gave me top service for my archery equipment, so I'm sure they'll give the same attention to rifle sales. Also it's a bit far but Londero sport in St-jean is pretty well known for both archery and firearms, they have just about anything you could want out there. If it's a Milsurp gun you're looking for buy online but if you do go to the stores for a new rifle make sure to do plenty of homework before heading out.
 
Find the gun you like and buy it online. That's what I do.. You'll save yourself a ton of cash by not having to pay 9.5% provincial tax.
I personally find firearms in Quebec are much more expensive then in the other provinces.
I was at Performance Chasse et peche in Repentigny this past Saturday and watched them sell someone ( first time gun buyer) a Remington 770 with a scope for just under $400.00 plus tax (460.00) Same gun at Cabelas Canada list for 299.99 (314.00 with tax) GST only no provincial. That's would have been almost 150 saving if he had shopped around.
 
I had very good experiences at Dante. If you can go on a day that there is not too much people (week time during business hours). Ask for Simon. He knows his stuff in long range precision rifles.

The Quebec firearm market is overpriced, it's not a surprise often online you can save quite a bit on new rifles, I'm looking at a particular rifle online that is over 100 dollars less than the best price I can find in stores.
 
If you shop around in Montreal you may find some decently priced rifles, Le Baron has a 10% member club discount that drops the price even lower. However, as others have stated shopping online via one of the sponsors will save you one of the taxes and even including shipping costs it comes out cheaper. FWIW I'd divide the shops I've visited into two broad groups Hunting Oriented and More Tactically. Sail, Le Baron, Baron Sports (west island) are hunting oriented. Fairly knowledgeable (depending on who's behind the counter) in hunting rifles, ballistics and scope selection. Dante has had more people who could discuss LR precision and precision rifles but also had good hunting (rifle/shotgun) knowledge. CRAFM is mostly tactical/precision/competition pistol oriented.
 
I have always had good experience with Dante
Le barons usually has good selection but the service is lack luster to say the least
CRAFM Good service but expensive i think but then again it is always higher end firearms
Sail has always treated me well , the staff is not the most experienced but friendly
