Hi Everyone,

So finally I have gotten myself into a black badge course at my club in october. I am wondering if anybody has any recommendations for good places to buy gear around the G.T.A. or online? Looking for basic setup to begin with. Please let me know!

Much appreciated :)

my advice: do your research and buy the right stuff right away. if you get some cheap stuff to get you going before you know you will be getting top of the line stuff.

Check double tap, he should have everything you need and you can walk in the store, try and talk to the guy.

WC ammo sales, Freedom ventures, MD gardner, shooters gear. They are all companies I've used before and they have all treated me right!

Now, do you know what you want for gear, or what you should be looking for in an IPSC rig?

I suggest that you DON'T get everything before your black badge course. Decent holster, yes. Stiff belt, maybe. But during the course you can ask your instructor for advice, and look over what other students have brought to the class.

It's REALLY hard to know what you're going to want to use without much of a basis of experience to draw from. No rush, either, as your equipment is not going to be what moves you up in the rankings when you start. For example, I still use the original "economical" plastic double magazine pouches that I got early on. I know that for myself, the cash spent on those uber-pouches that the tooled-up folks run could be used to greater effect on practice ammo or additional training courses.

I have to plug RedTipBullet here, best online shopping experience I have ever had on the internet.

If you know that you are going to do matches once you have completed the BB course, definitely start buying quality stuff. Unfortunately a lot of the people who take the BB course do their qualifier and show up once or twice a year for matches. Figure out if this is going to be a regular thing for you or not and buy appropriately. I'll second or third the plug for Red Tip Bullet... Nik is a great guy. I also have done well with Brant Shooting Sports but he is hit or miss for some people. He has always come through for me. Josko at DoubleTap is a good guy too.

You want a good belt for sure, like a CR Speed. They run around $60-70. This is the start of your platform. I would suggest a Bladetech DOH holster, about $80. I bought mine from Hamilton Tactical, who are actually in Burlington and have a store you can go into. Mag pouches you can really get away with anything you want. Make sure you have enough mags, 5+ and get an Uplula mag reloader, your thumbs will thank you by the end of the course.

Where are you doing your BB course?

Is doubletap's place in Brampton an actual store or just their base of operations? Would be cool to see some stuff before I go all in. Plus I've decided the bladetech I bought would better for other things.

Same thing with Brant, are they online only? Maybe make a daytrip out to brantford out of it, go see urbntac too.

I believe doubletap is a store. They have pics of it on their facebook page. I just can't find their hours of operation. Accessories only, no firearms at the walk in store.

I'm likely several months behind the OP as far as BB & IPSC participation (especially with hunting season coming up), but will monitor this thread for future info. There is another thread about setting up a chest rig but it is a mix of military posters and play soldier IPSC types. Since this thread is specifically IPSC, hopefully it won't go off the deep end and limit posts to IPSC needs.

Chest rigs are not acceptable in IPSC anyways.
I recommend reading this in your spare time. http://www.ipsc.org/pdf/RulesHandgun.pdf

5.3 Appropriate Dress
5.3.1 The use of camouflage or other similar types of military or police garments other than by competitors who
are law enforcement or military personnel is discouraged. The Match Director will be the final authority in
respect of what garments must not be worn by competitors.

Feel free to ask questions. Everyone here will have a different opinion for you, but you'll get lots of free advice! Just remember what you paid for it...

I am just getting into this myself. I've signed up for a BB course in Oct. I've bought 2 more mags to bring me uo to 6. Getting more blade tech mag pouches and have their DOH holster. For the moment I've got a wilderness riggers belt.
I have an HK45. It's what I have, so I'll be using it for now. Maybe get something smaller later.

I'm not going to make this another slam the dealer thread, but will continue to try and resolve my on going issue off line. But I will stand by what I said as fair warning to the op.

I have a 38" belt (inner and outer) if anybody wants it. Free pick up in GTA or cost of shipping. First i'll take it gets it.

Hopefully someone new getting into the game....

Its spoken for
