Best place to buy scrap lead

talk to the owner/manager of a roofing company and let them know you are looking for lead sheeting. they might give it to you for a decent price because it saves them the time and trouble of taking it to the scrap yard or maybe a bottle of sipping whiskey if the guy has a red nose and bloodshot eyes. very few homes around now that still have lead sheeting under the shingles but if you luck out you could get 50-100 lbs of lead from one large old vintage house.
I snagged some sheet lead from a stone mason who was rebuilding limestone steps on an institutional building. The lead was the barrier layer between the mineral rock and concrete.

Another place you find lead, is with building salvage companies. It is a less common material in plumbing. Again, I spotted some sheet lead from a sh!tter stack. Mine for the taking - but I found some work gloves before handling.

What do they use the lead for at these stained glass window shops?
Borders, used to frame the individual glass pieces into a mosaic like pattern. They go thru tons of it, and the byproduct is all the snippings that are discarded. They normally sell them back to a recycler for a song, offer them a little more and it's yours

Hi. l'm from the Golf Capital of the world. The home of the '' MASTERS''. l get my lead from my local tire shop here in Augusta Ga. l am a member of a local IHMSA club and range nearby. l shoot a S&W revolver in 44 Magnum. l sort my lead for casting 44s. Take precautions by casting OUTSIDE with good PPE and ventilation. Lead IS hazardous. ESP @ high velocity;)
PC or powder coating of cast bullets has revolutionized our bullet making!

Lead wheel weights are slim pickings here in Canada these days. Even before they were banned a couple years back there was maybe 20-30% in a bucket. Ik a lot of my American friends had the same results in the last decade or so.

My experience is different. I get weights steadily from two tire shops out here, and still plenty of lead in them. I feed 2 cannons, at couple pounds per shot, so use a lot more than most people. I currently have several tons in stock. Every September we shoot away enough to last many rifle shooters several lifetimes......

Might want to switch to zinc eventually. Lead we have been banned and are now going to be an extinct species.

Soldering the various bits together into the images and patterns. My grandfather used to make stained glass lamp shades and used lead "ribbons" that are placed around the edges of the glass pieces, then soldered together.
