Hey all, recently I've decided to start working towards getting on of my dream guns: the M1 Garand. Except instead of waiting for a decently priced one to appear of the EE, I have decided to build it with my own two hands using one of the many stripped receivers that came into the country. ANYWAYS (before I get too off topic), as the title implies, I'm looking for a Garand barrel in 308. I can only find them for sale in the states but no one will ship to Canada due to needing an export permit so I was wondering if anyone knew of any that were hanging around for a decent price?

Although what you define as a decent price can be pretty subjective, you may be able to find a good used .308 barrel on the EE for $200ish, or you can order a new Krieger short-chambered match bbl from Mystic Precision for $560 before shipping and taxes. Those are your arcs of fire price-wise. If you're willing to stick to the standard .30/06, you can snag a new milsurp bbl for around $300. As has been stated in many other threads on this Garand build, you won't be able to build a complete rifle for much less than complete rifles are going for in the EE.

It's not so much about saving money (on ammo it is, thus 308), it's about building a rifle with your own 2 hands and having that pride when you shoot it. It's yours, and there will never be another one like it. That sort of mentality

I'm with you on that! Had a lot of fun building my M-14 from scratch with Tactical Teacher this spring - very rewarding! I think a lot of guys, however, are hitting the brick wall of reality with the Garand build in realizing that, when the final bills are tallied, this ain't gonna be cheap!!!

"...for much less than..." More likely to be twice what a whole rifle costs. A barrel has to be installed correctly too. Barrel vise and proper action wrench or you'll twist the receiver into an odd shaped paperweight.

Pffft!!! Headspacing and Barrel Timing is for pussies!!

Just use good quality WalMart Teflon Tape and a Big Pipe Wrench and a Bench Vise and you are good to go!!! ;)

Make sure to pad the jaws! You don't want to scratch the finish....

:D

There are a few new criterion 308 bbls on fleabay for $180... ...one of the fine CGN sponsor import services should be able to get to you.

I have started a build like a bunch of others. For me it is more about being able to acquire parts over time. Putting out $1000 all at once is a bit of a hardship this time of year. $100 a month on parts, plus the fun of finding them is more of what it is all about than the final price. redfile3 on ebay has barrels once in awhile, if you message him he will let you know when he has some. He ships from Greece so it is not a problem.
