Best place to hunt in Canada??

Of course my vote would be for Quebec.....I'm just as biased as the rest of you. Bear, deer, moose, caribou, turkey, small game galore. My only peeve would be the low coyote population, but that doesn't stop me from getting out in the winter and trying.

Varmints in the summer on farmland that I have permission to hunt just 5 mins from home.

For sheer variety, the nod definitely goes to British Columbia. Nowhere in North America comes close to the variety of big game species. Alberta comes second for variety and after that, the Yukon. All three offer plenty of opportunity and plenty of public land. There are no bad places to hunt in Canada but the three above sure do stand out.

Why would Alberta be second? Just curious as I must be missing a species.

Looking at the picture only BC can give these kinds of areas to hunt, here are a couple of pic's of one of my favorite hunting areas here in South Western BC they are only a couple hours drive from Vancouver.

The other side of the rockies looks like that too. I am being biased!

You do have to live on that side of the province however...

Alberta has pronghorn that BC doesn't have.

BC has Dall sheep, Stone Sheep, Roosevelt elk, California bighorns, huntable mountain caribou, huntable grizzlies, better than the pathetic odds in Alberta of getting a goat tag, blacktails, fallow deer, huntable lynx, and I'm sure I'm missing a couple more that Alberta doesn't have.

hopefully this turns out and I did this right if not , well then you won't get a picture if yes , well then enjoy. This is my Manitoiba happy hunting grounds for critters like : black bear, deer , moose , elk, cariboo, some of the best fishing in kanuckistan, as well as too many smaller animals to hunt for which no license is required here , or a trappers license only. I think as this is as beautiful as anywhere else in Canada , just different ...anyway enjoy if it works out :)

Ok I managed to get one up so far, I'll put a bunch more in the photo gallery , soon as I can figure out how to "multiple post in one post ;)
At least this gives you an idea as to why I say any place in western Canada is best , as far as species and scenery, there are equally nice places in the rest of the country , but not as pristine anymore or as many places as in the west :)

Thanks. Was forgeting about the sheep.

Needed my hip waders to wade through your sarcasm.

I too give BC the nod. Yes, the lower mainland is full of hippies and socialist anti-hunting soccer moms, but elsewhere in the province the hunting opportunities are amazing. Sooooooo many different species.

Always wanted to whack a mountain goat...

I definately agree BC is the place. Between the fishing and hunting it is the place to be a resident, forget just in Canada, but probably the world.

X2

B.C. is also fantastic for just viewing wildlife that you don't hunt.Whales, birds of prey of every sort,I don't care who you are ,watching a bald eagle snag a salmon is pretty awsome. My old lady likes to watch the beautiful swans(I wonder how they'd taste)We got a little bit of everything here.Truly god's country.

Thanks for the pile of replies, this is great! Can't say I'm a huge fan of MB, I've lived there (in Thompson) and didn't like it too well! Tooooo many "social problems" :D Don't get me wrong, it's a nice province to drive through, but the job opportunities for me are pretty slim outside of Thompson and Winnipeg.

I'll have to check out BC though since that appears to be "the" place to be. I could get work most likely in Kamloops, Kelowna or Victoria, although Smithers "could" be a possibility. Anyone from those parts and have some input?

Matt
