Any good surplus around NB or nova scotia? Looking for a mosin for 100$ or an SKS for 150$ or less also I'm new to this forum, what do you guys think about these rifles?

Mosins and SKS are both fine milsurp firearms. They are what they are: inexpensive, a little rough, but reliable.

I think you're a little optimistic on your prices… That said, Canada Ammo is running a great sale online now… $399 will get you a SKS and 1200 rounds of non-corrosive ammo. Free shipping and only %5 GST as you're not in BC! $550 worth of gear for $400!

Canadiantire in Saint John NB on the west side carries several styles of SKS including some new old stock ones fresh from a crate of grease for $179.99

Canam deal is a Russian SKS....
+1 for Canam Russian sks and 1200 rounds of non corrosive ammo and FREE shipping, that's huge and you will only pay 6% tax. You will not beat that deal! Right off the top you save$36 in tax and around $60 in shipping! Just look around and check the prices of these 2 items and then add the shipping and tax! Then call Canam!

Many places have your rifles but you're a bit low on the price. A going rate of 150 -200 bucks will get you a decent shooter of each pedigree.

You can get a rifle and corrosive ammo from Tradex for $379 shipping included if you need yo save a few more bucks

I just paid $169 for a russian SKS at the cabela's opening. that and a case of corrosive for $212. Total $381

The canam deal seems good since the ammo is non-corrosive..

The only thing you don't get is the chance to see the SKS before you buy it.. (Check for matching serial #'s, bore condition etc..)

Oh sorry, I was thinking of another deal I saw, that's a pretty good deal but I can't afford that much ammo.

I found a place I can get one for about 150$ and 180$ for laminated stock, I've never bought a surplus rifle before, how much a difference would you say the laminated stock makes?

None... It's just looks. Some prefer it, some don't. In theory they're more rigid, but I've never seen a difference.

Thanks to both, does anyone know how often this gun jams and how often it needs to be cleaned? And I've seen a video where he gets the cleaning kit from inside the stock, should most rifles come with that cleaning kit in the stock?

doesnt jam often in my experiences. Cleaning will be dictated by the rounds you're using... corrosive; clean right away, non-corrosive; depends on how you like to store your firearms.

I come from military background, and do thorough cleans on *most* of my rifles right afterwards.

Cleaning rods are typically on the gun itself already, and the "cleaning kit" is usually just a brush inside of a cylinder that does fit in the butt-stock. I've never used that kit on mine... I go with the ol' trusty bore-snake and my pull rods from my personal cleaning kit.

Oh okay thanks, I have two beat to hell .22's that jam every few shots they were given to me in that condition, but I plan to take good care of this rifle.
