Best post WW2 war movie!

My Fav. Post WWII movie about WWI German Airforce of 1918, The Blue Max (1966). George Peppard and Ursula Andress (she is beautiful).

Everyone has things pretty well covered. This is for post WWII or I would also vote for "The Thin Red Line".

But nobody has mentioned "Dogs of War". Gotta love Christopher Walken with that XM-18 (even though its made up, its cool).

I still think stripes is the best. Lots of boobies and they were using old m16 rifles. Even mud wrestling. I liked full metal jacket but to much time was spent on the fat guy. I liked the part when the hardass sergeant made the fat guy eat the jelly donut while the rest did push ups. I don't get how they pull up at the city with tanks and 1000's of troops and then they seemed to be alone with no tanks and no fire support. And that chick was picking them off with an AK???? But boom boom long time was awesome.

Nobody has said "casualties of war". No that was a movie. Micheal j fox, Sean penn! When they were in that fire fight and that gook as they called him popped out of that tunnel and Sean penn blew him away just awesome and then when they were in that fire fight along the river and the camera shot looking through the sights of the m16 and the shot hit sequence was perfect. Then that river boat came up stream and hammered them. Great movie.

OK now on the advice of this thread I downloaded and watched (for the first time) Cross of Iron last night. Total mistake - It was an awful movie. Guys kissing guys... you guys who recommended this one are officially under suspicion. Why would anyone ### up a war movie? The plot was totally lame. The only good part was the representation of battle scenes and rifles being used. This movie is not in the top 500 WW2 movies. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

My pick is The Big Red One 1980 - that was a great war flick, I'm surprised nobody mentioned this one yet. Although there was one scene in common with Cross of Iron where a male nurse tried to kiss Lee Marvin - but at least Lee Marvin choked the guy for it.

If you guys have Netflix (or know how to torrent) I highly recommend "9th Company". It's about a platoon of soviet soldiers' experiences from boot camp to the invasion of Afghanistan.

''After barely surviving an intensely grueling boot camp in Uzbekistan, an eclectic group of recently enlisted Soviet soldiers ships off to fight in Afghanistan, where they must endure hellish conditions and extremely dangerous mujahedeen forces.''

If you don't mind subtitles, it's worth looking into.

*sigh*

I might as well sum it all up - movie or not, heres my own opinion.

So if its a "post" WW2 movie then its "Blackhawk Down" (I have yet to see its X-rated version aptly titled "Blackcock Down")

Best WW2 movie would be "Saving Private Ryan" (I also have yet to see its X-rated version entitled "Saving Ryan's Privates")

Best WW2 mini series would be "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific"

Best WW2 tv series would be "COMBAT!" and "The Rat Patrol" (because I like jeeps with machineguns)

Best post WW2 tv series would be "Nam Tour of Duty" (the show started out ### but became ok in later episodes)

WORST! post WW2 tv series is that super annoying "OVER THERE" (oh and it even has a super annoying them song aaaauuuuggggghhhhh!)

I only saw an episode or two of "Generetion Kill" so I cant really say anything much about it.
