I plan on reloading Hornady 165 SST'S and GMX'S for my BCL 102.
Is there a best powder for DI rifles?
I've got varget. ..IMR4064 and IMR4895 on my shelf.
Thx

If this is for one of the New Platforms....take it with a grain of Salt

Varget more than likely too fast of a burning powder

in the M14 / M1a / M305 best powders are IMR4064 and IMR4895 ...... but there is others that will also work .... first choice for me would be 4895

I have used Varget with great success in RFB .308.

I think it's a good ideas to stay in the 4895 burn range....

I have wanted to try 4064,. VV140, VV150 for semi-auto.

I am going to try Ramshot Big Game although it might be a tad slow?....I have tried it in BAR and saw no pressure problems and feed and ejection was fine although accuracy was not there.

You've got all the powders with which I'd recommend starting. Test them all to see what your gun likes with your preferred bullets although I'd stick to 147 grain or heavier for those powders.
IMR3031 can be a good powder in some 308s but it is at the fast end of the spectrum so you will have difficulty getting good velocities if this is a factor.

Just tried 43 grs of IMR4895 behind the 165 SST'S. ...ejection seems slightly stronger than the factory 150gr Winchester white box load.
I've only got a strikefire 11 on it so not looking for sub MOA right now....accuracy with this load is minute of softball size rocks out to around 100yds at my secret gravel pit...damn this is a fun rifle to shoot!;)

Rl15 and the 178gr eldx is shooting phenomenal in my bcl. Not too fast mind you but the accuracy is sitting at 1/2-3/4moa. Around 42-43gr is a great node in my gun. Getting exactly 2300fps.
I went hotter but and got up to 2550fps but couldn’t keep the consistent accuracy at that speed.

That's some great groups....awesome!

^ THis. I have been using RL15 in my BCL 102 with good success. My accuracy has not been near as good as Bare, but with 155 AMAX atop 44.5 gr and 168 BTHP with 42.5 gr of RL15 I consistently get 1 1/2 to 2 1/2” groups with the occasional sub moa groups.

Varget and 4064. Third temp sensitive option is RL15.

Give 168 smk or similar with 43.4 to 44 varget a try. 175 smk with 43.4 to 44 varget is another one to try.

Ive successfully made loads using D4198, D4064, H4895 for BCL102.
Have an adjustable gas block but the rifle needed it from day one with ANYTHING I tried.

Should I be reloading to service rifle specs?
I've read the AR10 type rifles like the BCL 102 and MH are strong enough to handle regular 308 Winchester load pressures.
Is this true or should one back the loads down?
I also see when Jerry did the load development on these rifles he was sticking to service rifle loads.

Yes AR10 can take hotter loads than current service spec. Give 44 varget a try with 168 projectile or 175.

Disclaimer:
Reload at own risk, work up and watch for pressure signs etc.
