I have Varget,H4895,Re 15 and IMR 4895 is on its way,I want to get 2600FPS with the1 175gr or 2750/2800 with the 155gr

Jamie, with my 23 3/8" barrel, I get 2680fps using 175 SMK on top of 44.7gr Varget. I would guesstimate that your barrel being 3" shorter would equate to approx the 2600fps you're looking for. This is in my Tikka Sporter.

My Ruger Light-weight-heavy kick had about a 20" barrel IIRC. My notes here have
180gr PSP's, WLRM, IMR4064 with 44gr., 2650
165gr Barnes X, CCI250 and IMR4320, 47.9gr for 2830
165gr Grand Slam, CCI 250, 4320, 49.5gr 2830
180gr PSP, CCi 250, H414, 52gr. No speed recorded but was noted as very accurate.

* I don't have any expansion notes with this data so please work up to these numbers. I haven't shot these loads in 5+ years.

My T3 Battue light likes
43.9 gr of Reloader 15 behind 165 Honandy btsp interlock.
Win Brass and WLR primers

0.847 off a sand bag at 100 yards. Just over 2 inches kneeling.

Three different reloading manuals list this load between 2600-2700 fps Hornandy, Lee and Serria (above Serria's maximum of 43.1?)

i think you will find you must load maximum or very near maximum loads to get the velocity numbers you want i went through that with a 22 inch .308 win and found the loads to be slow unless you load the crap out of it, i settled for imr- 4064 and varget with 150 hornadys both would do 2800fps thats about the best , i was never satisfied with bigger bullets,be carefull with fullpower stuff i used my chrony on all loads to be safe, good luck

Just what I expected to see, lots of opinions.
The 308 isn't usually all that selective. It does well with a bunch of powders. Your rifle however, may be selective. What works for someone else may not work at all for you. Good luck!
By the way, 4895 works well for me.

According to quickload these are the top 5 for the 175 smk for the parameters listed.
I had to edit some of the info out in order to make it a little easier to read.

Generally, when 4895 is presented without letters, it can be assumed it's IMR.
But you're right, I should have specified, and it is IMR.
I use H4895 as well however, and it also does well for me.

why I asked is if you load up a H4895 load to that should have been a IMR load you could have some issues:D big issues:eek:

thanks John,

Jamie
