Best powder for hot 44 Mag

Hello CGN.

Brand new to reloading for .44 mag (but not new to reloading). I've always loaded pistol rounds with Titegroup and it's been mostly 9mm and 40SW. I've read that Titegroup is not a good choice for hot .44 mag loads because of pressure spikes. My plan is to load some light rounds with it but I guess I'm looking for recommendations on a powder for hot stuff.

I know this might be a moot discussion as powder is so hard to find.

H110/W296 for full power loads. Alliant 2400 is good as well, and Unique is good for reduced power loads.

Seems like H110 is available online still. Just be sure to use a magnum primer.
 
I will add IMR 4227 , 296/H110 (same powder) , Accurate 4100 , 300-MP . Elmer Keith's favourite load for the 44 Mag (which he helped to invent) used 2400 powder with a 250 grn bullet. Great wrist workout. Load 7 or 8 grains of Unique and the same 250 grn bullet you can teach your kids how to shoot.
 
Little gun gives excellent velocities too. It seems to be quite a hot powder though so maybe not the best choice if you are really going to pound out a lot of rounds in a hurry.

That or H110 are my usual magnum powders.
 
Thanks Guys. I think I found a some H110 in stock locally.
Hodgdon website lists Remington 2.5 primers which is what I have on hand. I gather this is their primer for both magnum and non-magnum. Any issues you guys can think of using these?

I'd use them if I had them. I wouldn't expect them to be as hot as dedicated magnum primers. I also wouldn't necessarily expect problems if you are making "typical" H110 loads, but I'd watch for ignition issues just the same.
 
I prefer AA9 over H110 but both are great. Lil' Gun may produce slightly higher velocity but it's notorious for excessive heat. I definitely had issues with it in .300 BLK.

This "lifetime" buying stuff is so dumb. I bought this JUST IN CASE I end up doing field work in bear country again. At this stage in my career I doubt I'd be the one going out but I didn't want to not have that as an option. At least that's what I told the Mrs. - couldn't possible just carry the 686. lol

WW 296 and H-110, some consider these two powders the same, will give the highest velocities in the .44 mag. 24 gr. with a 240 gr. bullet in either rifle or revolver, accurate and fast.
 
Thanks all. Picked up my pound of H110 today. As soon as my Dillon funnel shows up I'll be making .44 mag. :)
