Hey, I currently have a savage 111FCNS (plastic stock, reg barrell), that I use to do 600 yard target shooting. I had a custon muzzle brake installed, and I added 4 pounds of lead to the stock. Works fine, now the recoil is minimal, but Id like to upgrade to a target rifle for more precision and longer range shooting.

I like to shoot 300 winmag. I reload it. I would prefer having just one large caliber for the ease of reloading just one large caliber. I know that some people prefer 308 and 338 lapua, but id like to stay in the 300winmag group.

I was looking at a few alternatives, and I dont know what to think about it all.

I am looking for this : 1- muzzle brake. Id rather have it stock instead of having to get one installed, but I could deal with having another one installed, if I absolutely have to.
2- heavy barrell
3- heavy rifle. I'm 120 pounds and I need a muzzle brake and heavy rifle to shoot 300winmag.
4- nice looks

I was looking at the :

Savage 110BA : looks nice, I've read good reviews about it. Heavy, stock muzzle brake. Maybe a bit overkill looking, but I like it.

700 XCR tactical : good looks. no muzzle brake. lighter.( 8.5 pounds vs 15 for 110ba) Recoil will be too harsh unless I can add weight and a brake. (but I guess I could)

700 SPS varmint : they only make it 308

savage 110 FCP HS Precision : nice, but still a bit lighter, and no brake I think unless you take the 338 model.

sako TRG42: too expensive.

2000 is approx my maximum

So whats the best 300 win mag heavy tactical target rifle for 2000$ max? (if I can pay less Id rather pay less)

After looking at all this, I dont really see a better option than the Savage 110BA.

Opinions ?
Thanks

Build something on a Savage/Stevens action.

$2000 is enough to get yourself a really nice rig, with a custom barrel, and a much nicer trigger than anything factory. North Shore Barrels, and Mystic Precision will have everything you need.

You might even have some cash left over to increase your scope budget! ;)

Go back to the savage arms website and look under LE at the HS series. They are making the 110 fcp hs in 300wm. It has the same barreled action as the ba only with an hs stock. It will be available to dealers early in the new year and should be priced at around $1200..........end of discussion.

Rebarrel the action you have. Put in a stock that fits you and a better design for LR shooting. If you are ok with the pull weight of the accutrigger, great. Otherwise, you can swap in a lighter pull trigger. Even a better bipod or rest will help.

I would go with a better designed muzzle brake - you may be able to swap in the brake you have now to save some $$. Send me a pic of what you are using now.

Your LR performance will exceed anything you can get from a factory rig.

ALL for way less then your $2000 budget. In fact, you can add an awesome scope and still be within your budget.

I have several articles on my website that can help with build info. PM or email and I can help you assemble a rig that will put a very large smile on your face out to and beyond 1 mile.

To the OP. You cannot build a rifle similar to the 110 fcp hs in 300 wm for less than it`s projected selling price of 1000-1200. It will cost you over a grand just to get the stock, bottom metal and mag. Be patient and get the 110 fcp hs in 300 wm in the new year and then if you`re not happy with how it shoots, you can get in line for the four month wait for a new barrel.

Ya I checked the savage 110 FCP HS Precision

Looks kickass

But I see the 338 lapua has a kickass muzzle brake, and 308 has no brake.
Will the 300 win mag have the damn nice ass brake like the 338 or it wont have any?

Can we add lead to the fiberglass stock, is it hollow inside? I like heavy r target rifles for low recoil and less flinching. I often shoot 70 rounds per trip to the range.

Read this on snipershide:

Yes, I've talked to Effie, she's in SavageArms custom order dept., the 110 FCP HS 300WM will be the same as 110 FCP HSPrec. 338LM, but it's the 300WM. It has the 110BA action, muzzle brake that is smaller than the 110BA 338LM, extended DBM system.

ETA: It looks exactly like 110 FCP HSPrec. 338 LM. picture posted above...

EPIC, I WANT THIS RIFLE

Any point buying the 110BA ????

Little doubt that you can get the factory rifle for a decent price but the OP was looking for a precision rifle.

Factory rigs are great but if precision rifle accuracy is desired, its all the in the barrel and set up.

And it will not cost over a grand for a stock and bottom metal. Just depends on what you want for parts.

As I said above, for the $2000 budget the OP had as a max, he can use his existing action and put together a superb rig for well within his budget.

YMMV.

Jerry, that`s a $600 stock. The bottom metal is $275, from you and an ai mag is $100. Not sure if you`re suggesting he go with a cheap, plastic choate stock......this one is a fiberglass hs with aluminum chasis.

To the OP, I`d try the Sightron 8-32 Lrmoa. Mystic here sells them, they`re an excellent value. The gun will be plenty accurate with the factory barrel and is a precisiom rifle.

+1 on a Sightron for long range. No point in paying extra for Nightforce if you won’t be dragging it around.

Jerry's good to work with too. I would take his advice and rebarrel.

Any advantage with the 110ba over the hs precision except looks???

For now im looking for a factory rifle, no custom rifle for me now plz.

I don’t think the 110BA has any advantages, unless you want to be super tacticool.
It’s big and heavy. Looks very uncomfortable to carry. Has a bunch of dumb rails everywhere. Its riding the ‘rail’ trend in bolt actions (AX, TRG, bunch of random chassis designs… etc…)

Don’t get me wrong- If you like that kind of thing go for it. I’m as guilty as any man in thinking lots of odd stuff is cool! Personally, I use my rifle for target shooting( both range and field) and for hunting, so I prefer the more traditional stocks for ergonomics and comfort.

I’ll also add the HS Precision will be easier to sell if you decide to change the stock in the future.

Then whats the point of the 110 BA ?

This rifle is the damn best epic rifle of all times. I want it.
Im going to the gun store tomorrow lol.

o_O

I had it in my head to build either a 300 win mag or 338 something based on the Savage action. I went out and bought a stevens 200 in 300 WM as a base and I was saving my pennies for a stock and barrel etc.
I have tried the 110 BA and they are very nice but not exactly my cup of tea. Then came along the 110 FCP HS and a great deal from JuanValdez (North Shore Barrels). Now I don't need to build the 338. :D

I am personally not really into the 338 but its just a matter of taste. I dont shoot that far yet anyway

Is the savage website accurate saying it's going to have a 24'' barrel and only a 3 bullets mag ???

According to some more info I got:

5 rounds, brake, 24 inch barrel, approx 10 pounds.

110 ba is 6 rounds, 15 pounds, 26 inch. Cooler look (imo). Is this worth 800$ more? will a 26 inch barrel make any difference on precision?
5 more pounds will make recoil almost nothing.

is the hs precision stock hollow? can we add lead inside it?

Have you felt a Choate lately??? Some of their models are, in my opinion, right up there with HS, and Mcmillan...
My "cheap" plastic stocks are just as rigid as the fibreglass HS stocks... but hey, I'm sure your rifle shoots a heck of a lot better than mine.
