Best precision rifle for the money?

The debate here is between the FCP and the BA. Please dont feed the trolls.

WHich rifle do I get and why :p

fcp because it's lighter has a nicer stock and it is way cheaper

ba if you're one of those idiots who must have the best simply because it's the best, although i think they will perform the same. or if you need to mount 20 ### accesories on it.

Yes it is and yes you can.
The front is the aluminum block. The butt is hollow. If you fill it, it will be heavy, but will balance much better.

I have cut 2 HS stocks now, and neither was hollow. They had either a full length, or nearly full length aluminum block in them. The al bedding block extends forward to where the sling swivels attach, and back at least past the handgrip. The outside of this is filled with foam, then wrapped in either fiberglass, or carbon fibre.

Inside of the aluminum cylinder that extends from the bedding block rearward was also filled.

If I wanted to add lead, I would hollow out however much of the foam I wanted to fill, and cast a lead ingot to fit. I carry hike my guns though, so lead isn't for me.

Carbonrod,

how much lead do you think will fit in the butt stock after hollowing out the foam. I figured I would put a couple of pounds of lead in my own FCP HS but your description has me wondering if its worth going to the trouble of removing and re attaching the glue on butt pad.

My die set should be here any day so I will wait to shoot it before deciding if I want more weight.

It looked like there was about a 1 inch diameter aluminum pipe running the length of the buttock. If you really work at it, you might be able to hollow out a bunch of room. I'd ping HS before trying it though.

Are you sure you want more weight in there though? 300wm isn't too bad.

I added 3.5 pounds to my 111 FCNS cause I was getting slammed too hard. (7 pounds, no brake, cant stand it) Im 120 pounds. Was WAYYYYy better around 10-11 pounds+ a brake. Can shoot 70 rounds, no pain.

That rifle is going to weight approx this, so maybe just a bit of weight, I'll see when I shoot it.

I have owned a Savage 10 BA (.308) for approximately a year and a half now and have shot around 340 rounds out of it. I didn't care for the large factory aluminum rail, so I removed it and installed a more standard looking 20MOA Warne rail.

A few months ago I was thinking of selling my 10 BA and moving up to the 110 BA in .338LM, as I wanted to try 800-1000 yard shooting in 2012. Plus I like the "small arm cannon" rifles available to us, if I could afford one, I'd have a .50BMG in my safe!!!

However, about a month ago a good friend of mine came over with his new Savage 110 FCP HS, in .338LM, so we went to the range and I had the opportunity to fire a box of ammo out of it at 200 meters.
The FCP HS is a pleasure to shoot, I was very surprised that the recoil was not much more than my 10 BA. That large brake must work well as the FCP is approx. 4 lbs less than the BA.

Needless to say, my plans have now changed!

I have decided to keep my 10 BA, as it is a nice gun to shoot, it's accurate, and costs much less to 'feed'!! Plus it has that 'Tacticool' look if you care for that.

Last week I ordered myself a Christmas present, a Savage 110 FCP HS in .338LM!

IMHO, for someone entering long range shooting, or an average shooter, you can't beat this gun for value. If I really like the long range thing, perhaps I'll upgrade to a custom gun in the future, but for now I think the FCP will "fit the bill".

Merry Christmas to all and here's to a GREAT 2012!
