Another strong vote for STI Spartan. I've owned most brands of 1911's and the Spartan's are hands down the best bang for your buck. They are put together much better then many 1911's I've owed that cost over $1,000.
Now if you want to spend more then my vote goes to Dan Wesson or some of STI's higher-end stuff.
If you want to spend less than ~$700 then my vote goes to SAM. Norinco 1911's work, but I've been too spoiled over the years to bother with them anymore. SAM is a moderate cut above.
