Brass cased or steel?
Bimetal jacketed bullets or copper/gilding metal only?

Barnaul is in stock at SFRC at $369.99/1000rnds right now. Steel cased, bimetal jackets.

Does anyone here use Steel cased ammo in their AR-15? How reliable is it? (I always hear many people mention that it's bad for your rifle, etc) Is that true?

Lucky Gunner did a torture test between steel cased and brass cased ammo. The bimetal bullets had killed the barrel rifling after the 10,000 rounds of the test but the barrel that shot copper jacketed had an estimated couple thousand rounds left. The price difference could have paid for more than 2 spare barrels though so it was actually cheaper to shoot the bimetal jacketed ammo. The steel versus brass cases had no effect on the rifles at all; no broken extractors, no difference in chamber damage, etc.

I tried getting to the Lucky Gunner article that I had bookmarked and it said there was a database error. I don't know if it's been pulled or they are just having website problems.

The "steel cased ammo being bad for your gun" seems to be just another internet rumour gone awry; just like tumbling loaded ammo causing explosions and any reduction in powder charges causing a SEE. Perhaps steel cased ammo is bad for some guns, those made from softer steels perhaps, but doesn't seem true in AR's.

Cool thanks! Good to know!

Tulammo caused all kinds of problems with the Bushmaster AR used in the test on Lucky Gunner so they had to pull it because of all the delays. I have also experienced the same issues with my M4 running Tulammo. Failure to cycle, hard extractions etc. Wolf and Bear ammo faired quite well with only a few issues. They were hard on barrels though. At 10k rounds the bullets were hitting the target sideways with steel case. The rifle shooting Federal brass was still serviceable. The article states in order to keep the rifle accurate with steel cased ammo the barrel would have to be changed out at 5k rounds.
