So my nearly exhausable supply is getting low. I have been a first in-first out guy for years. So i am running low on my old primer. Individual rifles/loads like specific primers, but what is the general consensus

Everything changes with time. What are everyones opinions on the best primers for large rifle magnum, large rifle, small rifle?

CCI
i personally like the size of the box & it fits in my primer flipper disc.. slid open the CCI primer cover, place one of the flipper disc over & flip.. primers are ready for primer pickup tube.
my 2 cents

CCI is my go to primer for everything, then S&B, Dominion, and winchester (pistol only). I do like federal for my revolver as it has a lightened hammer spring and federals are the softest.

I use CCI Magnums for my Lapua Magnum and WSM. I use Federal Match for my Large Rifles (.308 Win). I use Winchester Sm Rifle primer for the harder cups for my semi autos (.223) and Federal Match SR for my hunting guns (223 Rem bolt). I use Remington Pistol Match for my 22 Hornet and I generally use whatever is cheapest for my pistol/revolver rounds (mainly Winchester) as the primer doesn't need to be spectacular for those cartridges (.44 Rem Mag/.45 Colt)

100% application dependent.

Ask people what they use for this powder or that powder ,with this load or that load , in this temperature or that temperature, need a soft or hard primer,it will be all over the map.

Now, ask which primer people have found most reliable , that may or may not show a trend, and again is application dependent.

Most of the time failures are human error, I have not yet had a fail to fire with many many different brands. Not saying I am perfect just saying I have been lucky so far.

I Use:

Federal 215M for large capacity cases.
CCI 200 in my mediums.
CCI BR for my accuracy needs.

Again some choices may come down to supply as well and then I just stick with what I developed loads for.

In the end , it is one of the smallest influencing components, change brand, they almost always go bang.

IMHO

CCI
Federal
Remington
then ANYTHING BUT Winchester.

same here, after my last experience with Winchester primers i think i would give up reloading before using them in my rifles. Blown primers in LR and LRM and pitted bolt faces on two different rifles. Luckily i figured the problem early and gave up using them before too much damage was done.

I have one rifle with a pitted bolt face from Winchester primers, then found out how many thousand people had the same issue with both large and small rifle. Winchester offered to replace the primers, but not the damage, I told them not to bother and stopped using their primers.

My hunting loads get federal 215m, always, my target loads get whatever I can get my hands on cci, fed or Remington.

My preference is CCI all around but I use what I can get. Have had no problem with the Win. LP primers I've been using. Almost finished off the 1000 with zero failures. After hearing others problems with these primers I probably won't chance buying more.

So you definately find the BR's more accurate ?

I cannot say definitely as I have not recorded the differences , I suppose I should one day load some up with the 200's as well see IF there is.

I feel there is, but I am not a world class shooter either so it probably makes no realistic difference.

Guess I have a little project now, I will take a good load and try BR, 200, and 210 Fed , say what? 2 x 5 shot groups of each or 10 shots groups?

Weather permitting , in two months. ;)

So you definately find the BR's more accurate ?
