Best process/regimen for cleaning handguns?

What's your process?

After watching a bunch of hickock45 videos, I think my plan is to keep them in a gun sock in a humidity controlled safe, wipe them with a rag after being handled, and do a full clean with Ballistol (CLP) after every use?

For ones that aren't being used, clean them once a year with Ballistol anyways to prevent rust, etc.

Is that a solid plan?
 
This will give you the rationale. You will develop your own process with time. The guy is a professional armorer.

Most of my Glocks rarely get cleaned. My 17 and 34 get a fair amount of use, and are lucky to get an annual cleaning. They get 2-3 drops of oil every 1K rounds or so. The rest haven't been cleaned since the initial inspection/cleaning after delivery. Some are 10+ years old with >5K rounds through them.

9mm 1911s and 22LR Browning Buckmarks after ~1K rounds generally after a stoppage.

45ACP 1911 & revolvers after every session.

Edit, I only shoot at an indoor range. Rain/snow weather isn't a factor.

I'll clean them when they need to. Most ill do is wipe them down with a oily rag if it was humid or wet out.

Only when they get covered in snow, or rained on, is when I detail clean them. But for most range trips, they might just get a wipe down.
 
Last thing I do at the range is pull a Boresnake through 3 times. Cleans any crud out of the barrel and gives me peace of mind its truly unloaded when the trigger lock goes on.
Re-oil and wipe down at home for the next range trip before going in the safe. Slide off solvent/CLP cleaning every 500 rounds or so.
 
Meh. I used to be diligent about cleaning my guns, now a days I just can't be bothered. I'll hose them down with clp or rem oil every now and again.
 
I would say depends on how much you shot per trip, how often you go and how many you bring to the range. Sometimes I bring a gun if I haven't shot it in a while but only put 30 rounds thru it and go back to whatever I like to shoot more. Those guns don't get very dirty or cleared that often.
 
I have a gun with over 50K on it, field strip and wipe down before casing up. Once a year, take it apart and put the bits in an ultrasonic, put it back together, oil per recommendations - life is good.
 
I clean my pistols after every range trip. Mpro 7 to remove carbon and clean barrel. Lube with Weapon shield.
