Best PRS/Hunting hybrid rifle in .308

I say get an entry-level rifle and build it up to what you want change of stock and whatnot a lot of people are going with the Remington 700 I do not like the Remington line at all I have a 308 win Winchester XPR, I love it, I haven't sighted in for 200 yards but I sighted in for 600 in a long back country road and she hits perfect with a heavier bullets

Tikka T3x CTR. I hunt with mine in the OEM stock and shoot PRS in a KRG Bravo chassis. I think that would be very hard to beat for your price point. Rifle plus Bravo would put you almost exactly at 2000$.

I've got a savage 10tr that I hunt with and shoot paper. I haven't been in any matches but did recently get mdt lss cl chassis with their skeleton stock. I must say its definately heavier yet again but I'll still plug it around

The MDT LSS is nice and light. With a shorter barrel you might get the bench accuracy you want with enough weight savings to hunt with it.

I have also owned a KRG Bravo, and while its very nice, comfortable and affordable, it was a bit heavier than the LSS.

At one point I had 2 heavy barreled 700s in both chassis (26" and 24") and I'd say they could both be a bit much for hunting. I suspect a 700 sps tactical or something similar with a 20" heavy bbl might be do-able. Its the barrel weight that is the biggest problem. Even my stock 700 sps 26" with the tupperware stock would be too heavy for hunting, for me anyway.

The LSS is available for many rifles such as the 700, savage, tikka, ruger american to name a few.

I’m really interested in the Oryx chassis with a medium-heavy short-ish barrel .308 as something that could could be a cross over rifle for a really reasonable price. I think with a mid power variable scope it would end up being maybe a little light for a pure PRS gun and probably a couple pounds heavy for a pure hunting rifle but I think it could work for both. The Oryx is a great price and the polymer side panels will make it more comfortable in cold weather for hunting. Like any multi-purpose compromise it’ll never be as good as a something specifically purpose made but it’ll also be much more versatile.

The way I look at is what kind of hunting do you plan on doing. If you have a spot that you can easily walk or ride to and can comfortably set up for the whole day, you can bring any comp gun you want. If you are doing day long walkabouts over hill and dale, it becomes a much more challenging prospect to balance the two requirements. Having said that there are some good suggestions in this thread. Good luck with your search.

I’ve hunted the last 3 years with the Remington sps tactical in .308. First year was with a MDT HS3 and the last two were with an LSS-XL. Ive able to be creative with my shooting rests so I’ve never had a problem with the weight. This years deer was shot from a kneeling position with no issues either. I haven’t used this platform to shoot any matches but I do use it for target practice when I have time. As far as a .308 goes it does everything I would expect it too
