Best pump action

an older wingmaster with a barrel threaded for choke tubes .high quality guns and smooth to pump.the bps i have only handled and have never owned or shot seem like a slick action in a heavier gun . and are bottom eject as are the ithacas which is a plus in close quarters with other shooters . as for a gun that makes you a better shooter it has got to feel right when you shoulder it. if it feels awkward or just not right it is not likely the gun for you.

How do you find in in extreme cold? My buddy couldn't get his to fire. We degreased it but no luck.

-10 is the coldest I have ever shot one. Like any other gun, clean and well lubbed with no water or snow in or on it, it should work flawlessly. I have never heard of any gun not working in the cold if it was dry, clean and well lubbed.

best pump action is the ...

Sounds like you need or should seriously look at the Remington 870 WingMaster.
It will and does fit your bill.
From the 2-3/4 to the 3inch magnum, solid steel and deep bluing.
Loads of options for you to spend more money than is really needed to make it a zombie killer or what have you.
But, that is my .02 on a Really Good ShotGun.

The only thing I generously lube is the slide. I keep the lube away from the firing pin and a very light lube for the remainer of metal parts. This has never given me problems.

BTW, how does the BPS work in extreme cold?

BPS works well in cold...then again I only use a Graphite lube on EVERYTHING so everything is dry lubed. It all comes down to how you lube your gun internal parts and moving get the graphite and I use oil to just keep the exterior protected from the elements and for storage.

Fabarm!!

Sorry to be so obnoxious, but my Fabarm Martial has never EVER failed me. I'm surprised that there haven't been more people suggesting them.

I use Stag Frigidized Gun Oil.Its guaranteed to not freeze gun actions to temperatures to 50 below zero.Have used it for years in all kinds of weather with never a problem.

X2 on the BPS. The Ithaca 37 is nice too. But I think the price of the new ones are way out of line.
If you can find a nice Mod. 31 Rem. Or a Win. Model 12 don't hesitate to buy. Wingmasters and everything else pale in comparison.

Misnomer.. If above post makes me appear "Fuddish" I apologize.
X3 On BPS. I have a 410 and the fit, finish and action is as nice as anything Weatherby could put out with out the Weatherby price.

Lots of good guns mentioned, I've had a few of them, all good but unless I'm mistaken (and it happens often) isn't the Mossberg 500 the only deployed shotgun in Iraq?
If thats still the case, why would that be?

The US are using Benelli M1014 as we speak in Afgan and Iraq. This is a step up from the M4. Basically it's an M4 with all the bling added This is their current issue.
