three gun Range hold 'em;just spent the weekend devising, then playing this and personally think it is incredible fun, and gets very competitive.

The game:
based loosely around the popular poker game, texas hold'em, although the only poker skills you must have is the basic memorization of the hands (ie, pair, 2 pair, 3 of a kind)
It is played with a scoped rim fire, iron sight carbine, and pistol, shot from 50, 25 and 10 (firearms and ranges can be adjusted as per shooter preference, so long as it is apropriate for shooting a playing card sized target.
a complete deck is pinned to a shooting board (very cheap cards can be bought at dollar stores) it is important to use actual cards (not drawn on paper) for a couple reasons i will get into later, and that the cards do not overlap. and chips are dealt out

we played the game with limited hands (played to five hands) as we had time restrictions, this worked fine for us coz we had nothing really at stake and were all proper about it, but this adds a loop hole to the game in that on the last hand, if someone is well ahead in chips, he can just fold, iliminate the risk in the hand, and end the game... so if played to fixed number of hands, a "no folding before the flop" rule must be used.

anyways..
the game is starts with roling a dice to establish playing order, to keep it fair we rolled prior to every hand, but the more hardcore poker fans may want to keep the same order throughout. Prior to every hand all players put in an ante (we found for this game it worked better than using blinds) this means deciding on a minimum bet (ie. one chip, one dollar, etc) and putting int in the pot.
It is now time to shoot your hand, hehe, no, not like that, the game wouldn't last long that way:slap:

The first shooter in the order fires three shots at the 50 for his "flop" (the 1st 3 cards of the hand, and no in this game they are not a community flop) he then removes the cards from the board, keeping them concealed from the other players (it is imortant to remove the cards as you shoot them, or you have others shooting for the same hand)
the others take there turn, and the betting is begun in teh same order as the shooting (betting rules same as in hold'em)

With the betting complete you move up to 25 with the iron sight carbine and repeat the process only firing 1 shot for your 4th card. Repeat the betting process, move up to the 10 with pistol and fire for your last card.

once everyone has fired all five shots (whether you have a five card hand or not is up to your skill, but even if you miss you can still get a pretty good four or even 3 card hand) the final round of betting takes place and the hands are shown, winner taking the pot.

with the deck of cards being exposed to all players and hands attempting to be concealed it is anavoidable that people are going to occasionaly notice which cards are missing, this does not take away from the game at all, but if its a concern you can impose a time limit on the shooting, so players can not sit and memorize the shooting board all day.

we used the long guns at the prone unsupported position and the pistol at the standing.

We played this game for small stakes (losers bought winner a brick of .22) and worked out loop holes until it flowed very nicely, so if you think of any from reading this, i probably do have the explanation and just forgot to write it.
Its a great way to blow away a sunny long weekend afternoon

like i said pretty much anything can be adjusted for the players preference and skill, but those are the house rules we found to work best.

i would really like to see this done up into a larger tournament too.

anyways, just thought i would share this with u.

This sounds like fun as long as your friends int he game are the ONLY ones at the range. There is too much running out to get your cards off to allow any other shooters as they would be pissed about having their firing interrupted.

Can't you just have a spotter mark down, after each shooter, what cards were hit? If a subsequent shooter hits the same card, they get nothing. Bwa ha ha ha ha..

ya when we play we are at a private shooting range on private land, so not a problem for us... the running back and forth is also why we dont play with really long range rifles... and ya, it can be hard to see bullet holes, so it is fairly important to remove the cards as you shoot them, but i dont mind walking either.
