Best recoil pad

Hopefully someone else will weigh in on the angle but I went with pretty much 90 degrees off the top.

This is the SKB

This is a Beretta 686 that I shoot very well

And my favorite go to upland gun FAIR/Milano

My biggest concern is that these guns shoot the same and come up cleanly every time. I don't know if this is ideal for everyone but it certainly is ideal for me.

I am not sure if I had odd balls or not but both of the SKBs that I altered were nearly an inch shorter in LOP than my Beretta and FAIR shotguns.

Over 50 years of installing recoil pads I have found Pachmayer to be the best and the Decelerator is the best 'soft' pad... I wish the steel plate inside the pad was smaller or better defined on where it is. I have ruined about $300 worth over the years.

Pachmayr's site has all of their size templates to print actual size. Makes the choice very obvious. Never had a problem. I really like the Presentation 500B and the White Line black, white and brown 3/8" for a firm model. I've installed dozens of these! The old ones are better than the new ones.

I have a few aftermarket pads installed on guns, including a Limbsaver Airtech, Pachmayr Decelerator and Kick-Eez. The limbsaver pad by far the best at absorbing recoil, but is sticker then bubble gum. I have to cover the pad with tape to prevent it from sticking to my cloths otherwise I wouldn't be able to shoulder the gun.

The Decelerator pad is installed on a Franchi and I got lucky and found a pad off the shelf at Ellwood Epps that was a direct fit for some sort of Winchester rifle, but it worked almost perfectly on the 20g Franchi stock.

The Kick-Eez is a grind to fit that is installed on a 20g Citori. This pad is considerably softer then the Decelerator pad, but its nowhere as sticky like the Limbsaver. The angled heel is also quite nice when shouldering

I'm learning a lot ..... thanks to all!

It never occurred to me that it would be a 90% angle from the comb of the stock. I'm going to check my guns and see it that is what they measure.

It's amazing what difference an inch or less can make. My Marlin 45-70 was a full one inch too long and my fingers would come out of the loop when operating the action. With 3/4" removed, it's now MY rifle and comes to the shoulder like lightning! I lucked out with mt SKBs, both coming in at 14" LOP.

There is quite a price difference between the Pachmayr "Old English" pad at $27.99 and the SC100 at $41.99, both at Brownells. Why come?

It doesn't matter to me, I'm just curious as to why one is more expensive than the other. Is it because of the hard 'heel' in the SC100? Does one offer more cushioning?

I handled a Mossberg 835 with a Falcon Strike recoil pad. Really seemed to tame 3" slug loads. Heard it was expensive. Lucky for me, my rifles don't require much as far as recoil management is concerned.
