Hello,

Looking to get a red dot for a Benelli M2 Tactical with ghost ring sights & 18.5" barrel. Needs to obviously handle recoil and be easy to use, able to be left on for very long periods of time with out killing battery as its for my wife's shotgun. I was thinking a Trijicon RMR Dual illumination with 9.0 moa dot but concerned it may have the view obstructed by the ghost sights. Possibly a Vortex Spark2 but they only have a 2 moa dot. Any way ....suggestions ?

anything more affordable ?? aimpoint is disgustingly expensive. I was looking at a Vortex Spitfire x1 yesterday , the retical on it seems like an awesome match for a shotgun. wonder if it is durable enough?

My humble suggestion: the Shield CQS

My holosun apparently lasts for 30,000hours on one battery. Plus it only uses the battery if in the dark as its also solar powered. I have it on a 22 though, so dont know about durability with recoil.

Just to give you an example from the other side of the price spectrum:

I've got a Win 1300 with an 18" slug barrel that I only shoot 3" magnum slugs out of. Kicks like a mule.

I put a $35 tasco (on sale) on it. Worked flawlessly for years. Probably about 200 ish slugs down the pipe, and I'd even swap to the smooth bore and use it for clay shooting with the buddies now and then. Probably just under 1000 shot shells down the pipe. What finally broke was my own damn fault. One of the mounting bolts backed off (I hadn't used lock tite) and I lost it and the dove clip in the woods somewhere.

I replaced it with a $60 ncstar and it was either defective, or I killed it right out of the box on the first shot. (My groups at 25 yards suddenly opened up to over a foot). I think I more than likely killed it, as I bought two of them (one for my .308) and it functions flawlessly to this day.

So there you go. One man's bargain experience - good and bad.

Why not a Vortex Venom ? This is probably what i'm going to put on my 870... it's small and comes with a protective cover, and it's dirt cheap... ?

I have a Burris fastfire2 mounted on my 930 JM Pro I've shot one match with it lots of practice sessions with a couple thousand target loads and a a hundred or so hunting slugs and taken a whitetail at about 75 yards with it late season in -20 temps. No complaints here only reason it doesn't see more competition use is I don't want to shoot open class,if you watch for sales you can sometimes find it around the $225 mark.

Aimpoints are my go to optic for carbines & shotguns, but have had excellent results with the Trijicon MRO pictured above.

My M4 wears a T2, but I had to put a Mesa buttstock with a riser on to get proper cheek weld. I thought the T2 would be an ideal setup, but an RMR on an integrated Scalarworks rail might be even better.
