Best Red dot site for the money

If you can shoot with the irons forget the red dot. Tubed optics will make your Ruger heavy (been there done that went back to irons).
If you have an astigmatism the dot won't work for you either. If you still want an optic get a Burris Fast Fire with Pictinny mount.....

I was checking the Bushnell TRS-25 and see they comes in two versions and varying prices.

Amazon (Canada) has it for 104 free shipping .Then there is the version with the riser block(call it an AR optic) for 189.00 free shipping.

Cabelas has the TRS-25 AR version with riser block for 159.99

$ 50 bucks plus just for the riser block, think it`s needed ?

This thread has me interested.

I got the laser version as well , but I don't know yet if it will handle anything larger than 22.

So, this is for a rimfire, right? I went for the top-rated knock-off on amazon.ca for my kids' semi-auto .22 and it's been awesome so far. I believe I got a warehouse one and saved a further $10. Depends what you expect, right. I wasn't sure if red dot was what I wanted, so it was a low-risk low-cost try-out thing. So far we've put a couple 100 rounds through with the sight and it's held 0 and worked great for that application.

If you want quality though I'd spend 2-3x the money and get a brand name one. Check the amazon warehouse to save some $$, they usually have items that weren't used but returned after Xmas and they typically take $10 off the current price for those ones. The TRS25 seems right for the value of the gun.

I'm a new shooter, for me n the kids the red dot is a nice little step up from the iron sights on the .22lr.

TRS-25 is the gold standard when it comes to cheap red dots. I have one on my 22/45 and it works great. However I did get a cheap knock off like the one posted at the Calgary gun show for the henry mares leg I got since I didn't want to wait to get it shipped to me online. Works fantastic and has kept zero running around the farm/gopher fields so I lucked out. Usually one in 10 #### the bed lol.

Cabellas has a CP battle sight on sale right now, anybody know anything about them ?( got a TRS 25,seems ok but never hunted with it)

The TRS-25 is an acceptable low-cost RDS to mount on a .22. If you are going to mount it on an AR-type rifle that requires a riser, I would source a different riser instead of getting the one that comes with one. The Bushnell riser is too tall; it does not provide either absolute or lower 1/3 co-witness. Also, take care not to strip screws or mounts.

Holosun is the next step up in price that is more robust and has more brightness adjustment.
