Best Remmington 597 trigger mod?

OP, I have purchased MCarbo parts and they are really good. The company also has excellent follow up to see if you are satisfied. I purchased the 870 sear spring replacement for my 750 and 870...its like shooting a new gun!! I would highly recommend MCarbo parts.

In the end I went with the Mcarbo hammer spring (you can buy direct from them, was a bit more than $50CAD shipped). I estimate the pull has dropped from around 6.5 to 4.5 lb so better but still not great. I did not yet get the VQ hammer as I read somewhere that the original hammer can be polished so I did that while it was out, don't know if it helped.
Thinking about it though, I am not quite sure how either of these parts contribute to the trigger weight, I assume it is all to do with the force and friction of the sear at the notch on the hammer (?). I would not want to play around with that, though perhaps something like a sear spring has more influence on it all.

It's all related as a system, each component contributes to pull weight. The main factor is the sear/hammer engagement surface/angle, and the VQ hammer has different geometry and is probably the single most significant thing you can change, it would have done better than what you got with the MCARBO spring. A lighter hammer spring means less force on the hammer/sear engagement, so less pull weight. You can install a set screw under the sear spring to adjust the pressure, but it is delicate and can easily make the trigger unreliable for positive reset when cycling. It does lighten the pull by a pound or so, though. Be wary of polishing or stoning your hammer and sear, the parts are only surface hardened and if you wear through this, the parts will start to wear quickly and eventually become unable to reset, resulting in "double firing" or worse. Ask me how I know
