I'm looking to replace the buckhorn sight on my Marlin 1895MXLR (.450Marlin stainless 24" barrel). Looking for a peep/ghost sight style. Want to try this rifle is irons and don't really care for the buckhorn.
I do have a scope mounted to it on a rail, so a rear sight mounted to that is a possibility...
Do I also have/need to change the front sight as well?
What does everyone like and why?
Cheers.

A Skinner ghost ring is the answer. I'd match it up with a rectangular front post, brass faced if you can arrange it. The brass is kind of magic, in that it appears white against a dark target and black against white. The flat top provides a better index of elevation than a round bead, the horizontal line formed by the top of the post, equates to the horizontal wire of a cross hair, and the human eye is pretty good at finding the vertical center. Thus you have a fairly precise sighting instrument, that can be used quickly.

The Skinner look pretty good. They also have a dovetailed blank to replace the rear sight once removed. Pretty good idea.

Yup cant go wrong with skinner. Classiest looking sight going. I just ordered a XS for my marlin, they are a bit easier to adjust on the go.

Adjust on the go? Do the Skinners not hold their setting? I only shoot one recipe of handload for this rifle so once I'm sighted in, I can't see the need to adjust on the go. This is my sub 150 yard cartridge...
