I only have an "ESD" (simple Redfield with excellent intensity adjustment) so not sure how an illuminated reticlue helps with a higher power scope. I would imagine if it was too bright your iris would contract a little defeating the purpose .... would be worth trying to trial one in your situation to see how it might help. I have used a 6x,42 with a non illuminated thick picket and it provides all the image you might need even well after legal light.
It would help last minutes of the day when you can see the deer fine but when you background is a dark treeline the crosshairs disappear.
I have B&C's, varmint, std duplex and an illuminated duplex for predator control. The ill one is great, adj intensity in a 1.5-5 VXIII, wouldn't hesitate to put one on a big game rifle.
A simple reticle is best in many more situations than a complicated one is.
I tried the post type recently and did'nt like it at all - IMO anything with full cross hairs is best ........... I even have cross hairs on my bow cus I couldn't get used to pins
