Best rifle for cats?

Collared kitties get a pass here.

Reminds me of a discussion on FB a few months ago... buddy of mine in the UK posted a link about keeping your cats indoors and not letting them out to massacre birds. I replied "yeah, that's why I blast every feral cat I come across when I'm hunting."

Oh boy. Did I ever ruffle the feathers of some guy who loved animals - or more precisely, loved feral cats more than native wildlife I guess, because it's one or the other.

"Yeah, well how can you be sure it's feral cats you're shooting and not pets?"
"Pretty easy buds, you don't pop the ones with a collar*." Laugh2

*Though, there's really no reason not to - free range domestic cats and feral cats have the same negative impact on wildlife. If you can shoot dogs harassing deer, then surely the same applies to cats. If the neighbor's feline ####s in the vegetable garden one more time, I might just have to teach it how to waterski in a cage.

When I was a youngster we had no problem dispatching them with our pellet guns at close range when we hunted the strays at the town dump.
Very few got away, and we were doing all concerned, a huge favour. Now-a-days I'm sure it would be frowned upon.

Meanwhile, in Australia .... they’re countless online forum threads about cat defense calibers and shooting into space. Some Australians will advise to always wear a bell and let it be known that cats are more afraid of you, then you are of them.

Good thing they don’t have bears .... but then again, they need something to eat the dingos, so ......

I've grown up with cats and dogs all my life but if you live in an area where there are feral animals causing problems; they become a pest which sometimes has to be removed.

That being said .22 long rifle is cheap and gets the job done but I can see somebody using that same line to explain why they needed to use that old Russian PTRD they had sitting around in the house lol.
