Folks:

Looking to hear from people who use a rifle mounted laser range finder?

What do you think of it?

What make and model do you use?

Max distance will be 500 meterrs. It is just a rimfire afterall.

Unless you're dealing with Alibaba chinesium stuff, there aren't a whole lot of options for WMLRFs. The least expensive is the (long discontinued) Silencerco Radius which you can still find used. The go for around $800 usd and people have been dumping them as of late because of the recent release of the Vortex Impact 4000 (MAP $2900 cad). I've yet to get my hands on one but by all accounts it's a great civi-level (read 905nm laser module) weapon-mounted LRF and has an integrated ballistics solver (Geoballistics). Upwards of that you have the mil level Wilcox Raptor and the Envision Mars, both around $10k usd.

Think of what you are proposing to do! You plan to aim your rifle at something to find out what is the distance. I stepped out of bush into a field some years ago and saw a fellow a few hundred yards away with his rifle aimed at me - some time later I was about 15 yards behind him, in the bush - I do not think he had a clue that I was there - he was still at the edge of the bush - obviously not bothering to use binoculars when he had a perfectly good scope on his rifle.

Ranging isn't the same as target identification, obviously. - dan

There are only a few newer production units that do this, all in one mounted in the scope.

A few that I'm aware of are the Burris eliminator, Revic PRM, and Swaro DS. The eliminator by far is the cheaper option, followed by Revic, and the Swaro. I do believe the swaro will be the best glass, but you pay for it.

I really wanted a Revic back in the day, but ended up going the ranging bino, and a ZCO for optics. This way I can use the bino with any rifle/glass combo I have for hunting, ranging, shooting as all I have to do is change the rifle combo in the app and it provides all my bullet hold over info I need for what ever caliber I am currently using.

I totally agree that you do not use your rifle scope for spotting while hunting.

I am only thinking about at the range. Guess I should have put that in the original post.

When I hunted I used a pair of binos the same as everyone else.

When I sat I used a range finder to be sure what the distance was to specific points so that I was confident in my shot if I got one.

Merry Xmas to the bunch of you.
