Best Rifle Scope for a 30-06

I have a new 30-06 (Mossberg Patriot) and i need a good scope for hunting elk. Any suggestions.

Where will you be hunting?
Open country with the chance for longer shots or up close in the bush?

close up brush but then opn fields that stretch up to 250 yard about.

If your area has point restrictions for elk go with minimum 9 power at the top, 2 or 3 at the bottom. I want a 2-10 or 3-14ish. Spend for the best optic you can afford. When you sell the rifle keep the scope.

I've had a 3x9 variable since the 70's but I've always just left it on 6 power and never had a problem.

Closest elk was 40 yards and farthest was 270 yards.

Leupold Vx111 1.75-6x or Leupold VX111 2.5 -8x jmo Good to 300 Yards ! All a 30-06 is good for too ! lol RJ

I have used a 3x9x40 (Bushnell Elite 3000) for years on my 30-06 and made close and far shot. Never a problem.

Sounds like a mid-range variable would work well for you and most others for that matter.

Something like a 1.5-5, 2-7, 2.5-8, 1.5-6. Smaller scopes are lighter and trim which is a good thing. I put a 1.5-5 on my FN 30-06.
