Best rifle you ever bought?

Ruger 77 in 250 Savage bought in 1976. Lots of deer and coyotes with it. 2nd fav is a Mannlicher-Schoenaur full stock carbine in 308 bought in 1965 in Germany while serving there

Despite the fact that I am a bolt action guy, the best I have bought( in terms of satisfaction) is my savage 99E carbine in .300 sav. It was no beauty queen with it's birch stocks but, I fixed that with a take off walnut set. I've put 5 inside an inch at 100 with this rifle (on more than one occasion)and my hand loads. Only a 20" barrel on it. It is a post mil production rifle with little value to anyone else. To me, it's priceless. My most carried deer rifle.

Ruger M77 MKII and No.1 rifles in general... if you forced me to, I would choose my No.1-RSI in 7X57, and a close second would be my M77-R MKII also in 7X57. Probably the nicest handling and shooting rifle I ever owned was an M77 Carbine .358 Win, but my OCD got the better of me and I let it go as it was my only tang safety rifle. Another member is enjoying that little beauty ( ;) ). I have a bevy of No.1's on the way in and am excited to put them to the test... the one that has promise as a keeper is a No.1-A in .35 Whelen, as I sold my M77 MKII Whelen several years ago and I have been missing the cartridge... we shall see.

Have to note two;

- Browning BLR walnut/blued with straight stock in .270 WSM. Ergonomically, this rifle must have been specifically made for just me. Also, it prints tiny little cloverleafs at 100 yards no matter the load.

- Parker Hale Safari De Luxe in 30-06. A Mauser 98 jewel. Show me a better bolt action rifle. Ah g'wan...

$99 1943 Mosin that was on consignment at Tiger Arms. All matching expect the magazine floor plate. 2" groups with 60's Czech surplus, buttery smooth bolt. It's cheap, reliable and shoot fantastically.

If I'm hiking my Kimber Mountain Ascent 84L 270win gets the nod, I love this rifle. For a truck rifle I like my Browning A-bolt 284win. I will never get rid of these two rifles.

I have several favorite rifles depending on the application.........My modified 700 SS in 300 Wby, it's glassed into a Brown Precision glass stock designed for a Sako. The bolt throw and magazine I lengthened to 4" and I used Sako bottom metal so it holds 4 under. I also sent it to the old guy in Winnipeg and got it "6 port" ported. This rifle has seen a good chunk of the planet and has never once let me down. For general hunting of mountain game and medium sized critters the world over this is definitely my pick.
Another that has seen more than a few head of game is my factory Remington Model 7 KS in 350 RM. This one also has been magnaported with the original 4 port system, it was done when I bought it. This thing swats black bears like they were gophers, it is absolutely devastating on them. My son's buddy took a bison with his 350 this winter and he said it absolutely sacked him and he was a big bull. It's tough not to love this rifle.
The third is my old working 375 H&H again in a 700 SS which I bedded into a CDL stock. It has accounted for dozens of head of game in Africa and is my one gun battery when I go there. I have shot everything from duiker to hippos and a lion with it, again with out ever a single glitch.
I have prettier rifles and more expensive rifles but these three have proven themselves over and over and over in the field. So in response to what is your "best rifle", functionally and usage wise it would have to be these three for sure out front.

I have only ever sold one rifle and so I think they are all the 'best' - at this particular moment I would say -- for hunting deer in Ontario -- probably a small Sako Mannlicher 243W; for fun at the range a Steyr SSG69

(have to agree with C-FBMI though .. I also have a very handy Remington 350RM and a similarly handy Sako .375H&H that are very fine)

It's got to be my Laminated stainless Tikka T3. Shot great right out of the box - smooth action - good looking. I used to be a bit of a Remington fan but no more.

Ruger M77 Mark II RS stainless in 300 Win mag. Bought it from a gun show and killed a Black Bear with it less than 3 hours later. Didn't even have a scope on it yet.

I feel a little repetitious, but for me it’s my GSR (18.5” version).

I’ve been through many different rifles and I just can’t fault the thing.

-Stainless
-CRF
-Reliable
-Bolt action
-Laminate stock
-3 position safety
-Carbine length barrel
-Excellent sights
-Great mag system
-Super accurate, shoots every weight (110-220gr) VERY well.
-Fits me perfect

For a Range, Truck, Coastal Hunting Rifle, it’s dang near perfect.
Others may disagree or call it ugly..... meh, different strokes for different folks.

I will admit the action was not super slick right out of the box. But after 50 rounds and working the action with some Blue Magic its as slick as a ball bearing.

Very nice photo
